we are all in santa clarita...its also known as dry canyon trail too. Its past the entrance to miller jeep trail. Will know if I have work on saturday tomorrow and will get the details too.

Oh your close by to me. I used to work in Valencia about a year ago. Well just let me know what's happening.

If it's not too much trouble, do you think you can explain a little more about that ladder for me? How is it mounted? Does it swing out of the way for access to the back? Not trying to be annoying about it, I just really like the idea!

no worries jimmeh! This is what a build thread is all about...sharing ideas and experiences.

The gobi ladder is mounted to the back door just a clamping system. I have a link with the install directions so you can see how its mounted and installed. Feel free to ask any other questions, I wont get mad. lol
"is that ladder just for looks?" is, by far the biggest question I get from people (online and especially in person.) If I recall correctly I think the max load is 250. I am 6'4" 195 and I get up it easily, I also have a buddy who is 6'11" who is well over 200lbs and the thing doesnt flex at all. Only use it when the door is closed though, the damage is done when people try to climb with the door open.

Alaskantinbender: that is an obstacle called the sluice box in gorman. They have a 4x4 area where its all obstacles. I recommend that place to people who just installed new mods or trying to see the limits of their rig as it is a pretty safe environment, as its not miles away from help.

I have done the sluice multiple times. Each time getting closer and closer to the finish...The issue isnt capability, the issue is size. 99/100 the problem isnt lack of flex or lack of ability its just that I cant fit...I have been through about 95% of the sluice box but at the end it gets so narrow where I have seen TJ's and XJ's get body damage. I damaged my doors so I just build tube doors and will probably run those through there just to complete it and say I got a big 4x4 through there.

Also, if you look it up on google there was an H1 which got through but that was before they redid the sluice and made it smaller...

Running aftermarket rims are great but for me, IMHO, I cant spend money on rims to scrape the piss out of them so the OEM one's would stay. I like the look but they needed to be black. I contemplated the H3T steelies, and OEM gloss black rims but I decided to just bedline them then shoot a gloss black over it. I went this route because I knew bedliner likes to hold onto dirt so with a gloss over it that wouldn't be as big of an issue. I did the center caps first to see how they held up. They ended up working out great and eventually did all the rims too. I like this because I get alot of rock rash and with a quick spray of bedliner it looks as good as new. Another positive about the bedliner is that it doesnt look patchy if you touch it up. I dont touch them up with the rims on the h3 though, I dont wanna get overspray on the paint!

So I get my first welder and need to practice! I decided to reinforce the OEM UCP transfer case skid. I added a plate inside the one slot and will add another eventually. This is with flux core. I now have a CO2 tank but I didn't have it when I did this project. Now it has some scrapes on the added plate and no broken welds. I guess, so far so good!

I was also new to using an angle grinder. I couldnt follow the lines too well. Atleast no one sees it and it adds more protection

Take off the OEM UCP and measure what size plate you want. Use cardboard to help and then mark it on the metal and cut it out.

Next I did was a locker install!

So to most people (excluding people on pirate4x4) a locker install is kind of a forbidden area. Most people are afraid to do it seeing if you set up something a tad off you can do expensive damage to your axle...I did it in the driveway but recommend people to do it with someone whos a pro. My buddy went to automotive school and has his own shop doing a lot of custom work so he helped me out and had the backlash gauge and the necessary tools. If you have the tools and someone who knows how to do it, go for it! It can really help make things less foreign in case of a trail repair.

whoops! Went a tad out of order...miller jeep trail was before the awning.

Anyways, it was a ZJ, JK, TJ, XJ, another TJ and then the lonely H3 :smiley_drive:

My brothers JK, now has a welded in hoop bar. We also recessed the winch...he got a good deal on the basic one so we modified it.

Think I am gonna stop there tonight. This brings me to june or july of 2011...less then a year left to get up to date!
