08 4Runner lift tire question(s)

Lookin at adding some new rubber on my 4Runner. I just got toytecs 3" suspension lift. Now I wanna put some new tires on it. Can I run 285/70 17 on it with no issues of rubbing? I currently have 275/70 17 right now.

Yes. You will either need higher offset wheels, or wheel spacers. Personally I hate spacers.

Check the clearance between the existing tire & the knuckle - my guess is that it's pretty tight. That's going to be the limiting factor with tire width on the OEM wheels.

I have 265's on my '08, & the sidewall is about 1/2" from the knuckle.

As birdmann mentioned - higher offset wheels or wheel spacers can fix that problem - but both introduce other issues (increased leverage on the ball joints & wheel bearings, different scrub radius, etc). Maybe you're OK with those, maybe you aren't.

^^^ correct info i completely agree with.

also a possibility you will need to do the body mount chop. front body mount behind the front wheel well opening. easy to do, but minimal fab skills and tools needed.

Body mount chop is not needed until 315 or larger. I have 285/75/16 with scs f5's that are 3.50 backspace. Personally I think it's the best set up. Minimal added leverage on the bearings due to the wheels design. Spacers will give you way more if that lever effect. Plus you're adding six failure points per wheel. Bump stops will need minor adjusting depending on what shocks/springs you have. If you have further questions pm me.

Any idea what the backspacing is on the OEM wheels?

It would be good info to have in the thread for the next person who is researching.
