08+ Tundra Buyers Guide

Currently shopping around for a used Tundra 4x4 auto

My main concern is bed size and rear seat room, for the kid and car seat

I found these specs for a 2014

Cargo area dimensions:
-length (inches): 66.7
-front width (inches): 66.4
-width between arches (inches): 50.0
-height (inches): 22.2

Cargo area dimensions:
-length (inches): 78.7
-front width (inches): 66.4
-width between arches (inches): 50.0
-height (inches): 22.2

Cargo area dimensions:
-length (inches): 97.6
-front width (inches): 66.4
-width between arches (inches): 50.0
-height (inches): 22.2

So are there actually 3 bed sizes?

I think I am pretty set on the 5.7 motor

310-hp@5,600 RPM 4.6-liter V-8
327 lb.-ft. @ 3,400RPM

381-hp @5,600 RM, 5.7-liter V-8
401 lb.-ft. @ 3,600RPM

What issues or known areas should I watch out for when shopping?
Regular 87 octane gasoline for both V8 motors?

I've got an '12 double cab w/ 6.5' bed, so I'll try to answer a few questions. First, tundratalk.net is a great tundra specific forum.

I'd go w/ the 5.7, and 87 octane is fine unless it has the supercharger.

the double cab had 2" more rear seat room than the 4 door tacoma when I was shopping, and comes with a 6.5' or 8' bed
the crewmax has a ton of back seat room but only comes with a 5.5' bed
a car seat fits without a problem in a double cab

the rockwarrior was just different wheels/tires and color matched bumpers compared to the trd offroad package
TSS was something for southern states, so I don't know the differences, but it was mainly cosmetic

avoid front spacer lifts like the plague, if you want any lift in the front go with the bilstein 5100 at a minimum, or upgrade to some nice coilovers (icon, king, fox, ads)
camburg, total chaos, and icon all make good uca's
stock front is ~3" lower than rear
@coachbuilder1 on tundra talk makes some really nice shackles for rear lift

@zidaro has a great build thread of an '10 crewmax here on the portal, I definitely recommend reading through it: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/50656-10-Tundra-CrewMax

Tundra is a great platform...

I have a 2011 Tundra Crew Max, and I think this is a great platform to build upon. I started with a grade model and built it up myself. I don't have any buyer's remorse on this decision. Toyota reliability, plenty of room and a bomber engine...It has been a great vehicle. I would not hesitate to buy a Tundra again.

Tundra talk is a great resource, you just have to wade through the 'mall-crawler' threads...Good luck.

There aren't really any issues to be aware of. Get the 5.7 V8. Decide what makes more sense for you: Bigger bed and smaller back seat or bigger back seat and smaller bed. Drive away happy!

The TRD package is, in my opinion, a light duty off-road package. If your plan is to build it as an off-roader I'd buy a cheaper model (or more expensive interior upgrade) and add suspension and skid plates as needed.

Gear options?

Chain tcase?

Chain tcase is kind of irrelevant.

You're kind of a lazy searcher aren't you?
