I didn't think thay had armor on them? Not the pics I have seen anyways. Stock suspension.
Are you referring to the 01-04' Double Cab TRD rigs that were basically off the shelf trucks with some armor shipped over? I've seen pictures of them in the Middle East. I own a CUCV M1031 so I dig the Chevy rigs and HMMWV's but love how a Gen 1 Taco gets a gun mounted tom the bed and put into service.

I don't recall there being any armor on them other than the stock TRD stuff, but yea, we drove those for a while. At some point, prior to my arrival, someone welded together SAW pintle mounts that bolted on and sat over the cabin. I have memories of the barrel of the weapon constantly whacking the SINGARs antenna and making that twang sound. Was just waiting for the antenna to come unglued and crack all over the place.

I am surprised that our military used them. If you look back to the CUCV days...they were modified off the shelf rigs. Everything else is 24V with Nato compatible hookups. Plus they all have the additional shackles for recovery/transport. The Taco was plucked from the showroom and dropped off...very cool.

Had an 09' Taco in today. I will admit that the seats were very comfy on this base model 4x4 with a bench. That is where my love ended. Had to replace the stop light switch which was under the dash near the pedal linkage facing down. Oversized winter boots killed this flimsy plastic switch. All of the pedal assembly is overly complicated with breakover hinges with lots of pivot points. Not like any previous generation had easy to adjust items under there but this one was about ten times worse. Plus the clutch pedal is plastic. ABS and VSC lights were on. My $6,000 OTC scanner refused to clear DTC's in the ABS/VSC/Trac module.

Classic example of why I hate the newer generation rigs. But the seats were nice ;)
