Hello, Long time lurker just recently joined this great community and source of info.
I'm looking to get a 100 series for an upcoming 2 month US and Canada trip. I've traveled solo a few times in smaller vehicles but this time my wife and dog are coming along so I was thinking I would get something I've always wanted- A Land Cruiser-- do a light build and go from there.
I've been looking around and came across a 2001 with 135000 that looks pretty clean from the pics and a clean Carfax report. After talking to the original owner, he informed me that he has done all of his own maintenance. Really nice guy who sounds capable and honest but informed me that all he's really had to do is the breaks and oil changes save for an 02 sensor replaced by his long time mechanic. I inquired about the timing belt and it has not been done. As well he says that he has never changed any other fluids - tranny, diff, antifreeze etc. Nothing. All original. That said, he says the engine is as strong as new, no oil burn and has never had the top off the antifreeze. It doesn't leak or consume any fluids. I know the maintenance schedule on this vehicle and he is well beyond it for pretty much everything.
I'm planning to take a trip out to look at the truck but am obviously a little spooked by this. What do you think? Is this something I should even be entertaining?
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
All the best,
Chris M
