100 Series Dash Light Not Working

Question: The light on the dash that indicated the car is in drive is not working, the "D" does not illuminat when in gear. All the other gears light up as they should. Do these have an individual light for each gear? Could I just have one that is burned out?

How hard is it to pull the dash out? Any hidden tabs, clips, or screws that I should know about?

Thanks for all the help and input!

I challenge you to find a single 80 or 100 that still has a functioning "D" light. It's a very very common thing for them to burn out. I won't replace mine, as it is so bright for night driving. My wife said "how do I know what gear I'm in?", and I replied, "oh I don't know, maybe LOOK AT THE SHIFTER???" The dash light is just a back up. The shifter is clearly labeled too.

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but go over to ih8mud and search it in the 100 series tech forum. I'd bet there's quite a few threads on it.

Too many plans, not enough time
known issue (although I think worse on the 80 series).... mine was out for about a year. It's back now. i did nothing to cause it or fix it.

Classic "D light mod". One of the most important mods on a 100. Search Mud for a fix (replace dash lights). I'm keeping the mod.

If you want it to work ********** the top of the dash and it will normally fix it (MUD fix)...I leave them in a non-op state as I find them annoying at night.

I realized after posting that it is actually kinda nice to have one less light staring at me driving at night. I will count this as a bonus "mod" the truck came with when I bought it.
