100 series tire size

285/75/16 (may seem small after a lift, may be small for the heavy loads I will carry. These look good to me on a 4runner...but for a LC????)

305/70/16 (just a bit wider, should handle more load better)

315/75/16 (now were talking offroading! but will it fit with stock suspension)

I'm a bit busy at work right now, so I'll be quick and blunt.
Your preconceived notions about a wider tire being able to hold more weight are incorrect in this instance.

You can find all the specs of the tire on the manufacturer's site.
Check there before you pick your tires to ake sure they will be able to handle the load you are planning. ;)

In truth it depends on the specific tire brand/model and/or the actual width. The 315/75-16" Toyo MT, for instance, will rub the steering knuckle without a spacer at 2.75" of front lift height on the 100.

That postee made a "blanket statement" that you "need wheel spacers to run 35's". My post is 100% spot on "blanket-wise". You can run 95% of the 315's out there WITHOUT wheel spacers.

One single tire make and model does not speak for "all 315 tires".

My GY MT/R 315/75-16's also rubbed in the same place on the same rig at the same height.

I'm not the one conveying absolutism...

I didnt need spacers on my 35's (Nittos 295/70-R18) to clear the tie rod ends but they did need a bump stop to keep them from hitting the fenders.

Please stop the MUD tactics. I could list 23.345678 different 315 tires that don't rub. Le'ts not polute Scott's site. Thanks!

Ditto.

I shy to share my opinion of the childish posts on the MUD 35" tire thread, as it is not mine. I tried to make a logical and level-headed explaination of the variations you are finding in fitment, only to find more...(expletive) posts.

I can go there to read the bickering of these familiar screen names, but have quickly been finding a dis-taste for the character of the posts.

Please don't bring it here.

Yes...5Cruiser there is 5Runner here.

Here's a free lesson in life...supporting your opinion buy trashing some else's is less than half as effective as simply supporting your opinion with your own opinion. I can watch fox news if want that tactic.

Sheesh... now here's a smiley to keep it all happy. :)

Is stock gearing adequate with the 35's?

It has been for me for 120,000+ miles. For those carrying big loads and/or always driving on the mountains have said they want a re-gear.

I tried to re-gear in 2002 before anybody knew what was in the rear. It was a no-go once everything was opened up so I'm staying stock until those pumps need to be ripped out for service.

While a re-gear is ideal, stock gearing is livable for most folks.
