sale over?

I just tried to buy one, but I guess the sale is over?? I wonder if it was a mistake to begin with? I've seen that happen before.

Does anyone know how difficult this is to splice? The literature says it has three layers: Technora, Dyneema, and nylon core. Is this not the same as regular synthetic winch line? I tried to google "hybrid fusion splicing" but got nothing.

Thanks.

This is an update for anyone interested in my previous unanswered question regarding splicing this line. I sent an email to Smittybilt and their response was this: "These ropes cannot be spliced, But you can cut the clevis hook off and install the d-ring thimble." (I asked about adding a safety thimble to one end)

I purchased one of these lines thinking that I could use it as an extension if I just added a loop on the other end. The price was good and I wanted to practice anyway. It appears that I can't since I have neither the skill nor equipment to sew a loop into the line. The hook end is terminated by sewing and covering with heat shrink. Due to this issue I don't need this particular line. I have a more power puller, but no electric winch, and no intentions of buying one in the near future. I will be selling the line shortly if anyone is interested. Thanks.

Beowulf, Thanks for the link. I actually read your instructions quite some time ago which made me want to try the DIY approach. Very informative.

Are you saying that the Smittybilt line is as easy to splice as the actual Amsteel line? My concern was the 3 layer description (Technora, Dyneema, and a nylon core). I'm unable to spread the strands enough to verify and I can't tell from looking at the crimped connection on the winch side if it is constructed the same as the line you demonstrated with.

It has been years since my winch was last needed; does anyone know if the new synthetic cables are as U-V/age resistant as steel cable?
...it would be a shame to need my winch only to have the line break...
Enjoy!

I am no expert, but synthetic (of course depending on the quality of the line and coatings) can definitely hold up to UV. Per Warns instructions, I would recommend inspecting your line thoroughly for tears, and proceeding from there.

For the future, if you don't already have a line cover on your winch, that seems like a good investment.
