My neighbor and I have been looking at someplace to go that's not too far from home. Arkansas has been in our sites for some time as its only a few hours away. We loaded up the trailer and headed out after work on a Thursday for a long weekend of exploration and photo ops.
We made it to Snowball around midnight and stayed by the waters edge the first night. The temp was nice and cool when we arrived. Awoke to steam coming from the water and frost in the hay field next to us. Very nice!!
We ventured down the local dirt roads admiring the landscape and the exiting colors of fall. We spent most of the first day taking pictures of rocks and waterfalls as we made our way through the Ozarks. Very beautiful country.
The second night we stayed near a fork between two creek south of Sand Gap. Woke up to the opening day of rifle season and plenty of people out and about. I was very pleased that we had no altercations or bad moods along our way. Decided to take a short cut, this turned into a technical route that had four wheeler operators doubting our passing successfully. After about 5 miles we came out just shy of their hunting camp and the looks on their faces were priceless. We stopped and chatted about what we were doing and where we had been so far. The group was excited about our plans and success so far. With an invite to come and play next time we were in the area, we departed on our way to our last evening on the trails.
We found our way to the area we wanted to be in for the evening. On the water with a neat rock formation stretching out into the river.
We fired up the Dutch Oven and cooked a great dinner and reviewed all the pictures and videos we had taken up to this point.
Woke up the next morning and slowly headed down towards Mena OK and passed over the Skyline Dr. Very pretty drive if your in the area.
As we left the area, we passed by the 3 Sticks monument and headed West to the old Kiamichi Fire Tower on the K-Trail. Made through about 20 miles of the K-Trail then dropped out on the Indian Hwy and headed home.
What a trip!!!
