10th Gen F150 Build

For the most part this is going to start out as a RestoMod. I'm posting everything I've done thus far and then start the true overland modding as the months go on. Not only is it an adventure truck, but it's also a tow rig for our boat and toys. If we didn't have all of those I would most certainly have a Toyota or something smaller and properly suited for overlanding.

Stock F150 Supercrew, 4x4 Lariat Offroad/Fx4 - Side steps removed.

In this trim I've done just about everything I wanted to do, Hunting and Overlanding related.

I know this sounds minor but converting interior lighting to LED's helps a ton.

It was time for stainless brake lines.

Then Upper control arms and all 4 ball joints. Along with an Idler arm. I'm not including installed pictures because stock looking parts aren't very exciting.

Failing a $15 Virginia state inspection turned into all this.

Instead of going with springs with more Flex like deavers, I've chosen to go with stiffer springs. Thee are F250LD/7700 Leaf springs. 2200# springs vs. the original 1400# springs feels real nice. Not only is it stable on the trail, it helps with towing. I'll give up a little here if I ever need to do more complicated rock crawling.

I didn't want to buy aftermarket wheels but factory wheels rub at lock with 35" tires so these were the only real choice. (I'll never use spacers.) Their only 2 pounds heavier than stock whiles being an inch wider and they fit 35's.

35" tires and Overlanding demand a larger Transmission Cooler. This is roughtly twich the size of my stock cooler and is a Factory Ford part for easy replacement if needed.

This is the way it Sat with the new F250 springs and stock tires.

I have 4.56's waiting for me to decide on if I'm going to go with ARB's or tru-track. Although now I'm starting to consider 4.88's for the trail.

A video I made for the exhaust and not Overland related but still fun anyway.

Installing Expedition Roof Rack: This is NOT for anything heavy. Kayaks, A small basket with LED's, Bikes etc.

Besides installing lockers of some sort I'm pretty much done with all the Fixing. I'm dropping in a newly built engine sometime next year but that pretty basic.

Now I need to start working on the real Overlanding Gear.
*Steel Front & Rear Bumpers
*Bumper mounted Tire carrier & Jerry Cans
*30 gallon Fuel tank
*Winch
*Fridge
*Tent

Yes, it's from a Ford Expedition. 97-03 expeditions share many of the same parts, like the dash but the expedition got a full length console.

Only thing that bugged me on mine was the extra shortbed. Other than that, great trucks!

Nice looking truck!
What are your plans with the Pi?
I wish I had a full console in my truck, but that extra storage is awesome! I just have my CB on the floor.

Good looking rig. Nice call to upgrade to the moog ball joints and upper control arms. I did the same thing with 06 and it is nice to flush out the ball joints. Are you going to upgrade your shocks when you put on the steel bumpers?

Thanks everyone.

The 5.5' bed has gotten a bit annoying at times but with the roof rack now I should be able to supplement a little room.

It has a 5.4 2v which my plans for now are Either drop in a 4v and leave it stock or another 2v at 10:1 with MHS torquer cams. I've been dealing with these Modulars for too long now so I'll probably just have someone else build it and I'll drop in the Long block. I've thought about a LIghtning blower but it may be counterproductive to keeping it simple.

The Raspberry-Pi has lots of possibilities but I just use the one in my truck to play around with Software defined radio. Everything from OTA FM to Aviation traffic and Ships in the bay.

That's pretty awesome! I'm getting stuff together to make a Front/Rear View Camera + DVR system with a Raspberry-Pi. Can you listen to all of that with your RTL-SDR? Sorry to get off topic of your build, but I love the electronics!
