Exploring the Serengeti Unguided - Stuck In Low Gear

This was it, into the Serengeti, self drive and unguided. We had a fantastic time exploring the park and had excellent sightings. 33 Lions in one day!

Prehistoric Tsavo West and Red Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo West and Tsavo East brought us gerunuks, red elephants, and nighttime animals visits, all part and parcel to these rugged parks.

Since Tsavo we have made it all the way up to Northern Turkana, the Masai Mara, the Cherangani Hills and just yesterday into Uganda. We're settled in at The Haven, hoping to catch up on the blog a bit more. Please let me know if there are Africa overland questions we might be able to answer, I know finding out about this stuff sometimes takes a lot of digging!

We left Aberdare and drove to Samburu National Reserve. Here we saw the "Samburu 5" and other wildlife before starting out for Lake Turkana

We drove from Sibiloi National Park across the Chalbi Desert. The Kalacha Oasis provided a midway camp, then we heard about the bandits ahead.

At Ziwa rhino sanctuary I woke up at dawn to a strange noise. I got up and found three rhinos sleeping less than ten meters from the tent.

Our explorations of Uganda Continued, this time we tracked chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and Lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda, and a lot of very twisty dirt roads.

Gorillas of Bwindi and the Halcyon Lake Bunyonyi and Mutanda

It was a big day, trekking into the Bwindi Inpenetrable Forest to seek Mountain Gorillas. They were magnificent, and after we relaxed at the lakes.

Then we went to Rwanda. But it was raining a lot, so we didn't stay long. Beautiful country.

Rwanda is a small country that made a big impression. It's similar in geography to southwest Uganda, but felt very different in every other respect.

Stuck in the Mud on the Rugged Mahale Bamboo Valley Road

The Lakeshore near Mahale looked like it'd be more scenic and interesting than the T9. Scenic, remote, rugged and beautiful. And we got stuck.
