12 V vacuum recommendations?

Google Black & Decker 12V vacuums... they have a whole bunch actually...

I have one from 1986(!)) up at my off-the-grid cabin. It's a dust-buster style. It's not great, but it will work.

I know the OP isn't interested but others may be - I use the Milwaukee 18v shop vac for work and have been pretty pleased with it. No, it's not as powerful as a corded big vac but it's small and actually does pretty well on water which is important for me as I work on yachts. The run time is pretty good since you don't generally run the vac more than a few minutes at a time...it's not like you're vacuuming a whole house with it. Mainly I like it because of the size and convenience of being cordless. It's often a hassle for me to have to string an extension cord down to a bilge or engine room. If somebody is already carrying cordless tools, it's a good addition.

Although I haven't tried one in years, I hear the latest versions of the black and decker dust busters are pretty good. Far better than the old 80's things I remember.

I have a DataVac..similar to the MetroVac, but intended for commercial use cleaning computer and other electronic equipement..and you can get obscenely expensive filter bags for vacuuming up spilled laser printer toner! :D I plug it into an older Statpower 800 watt inverter and go to town. Nope, it doesn't work quite as well as it does on house power, but it's a heck of a lot better than any 12V vacuum I've ever tried. I've actually run my ShopVac off that inverter a few times too.

I have that Dewalt 20V shop vac at home - it is really nice to have a vacuum like that which you can carry around as you do chores, and being able to choose to run off battery or mains is a nice bonus.

For the camper, we have a Dyson DC34 handheld.

I just don't think you are going to be terribly happy with a 12V corded - or at least I've never found one. I run my inverter while rolling down the road and it charges the Dyson and other stuff while we are underway. Then when we camp it is ready to go.
