19.5 dually for beach camping/

I am going to do some beach camping and sand driving with a F 450 Dually with 19.5 wheels. How low can I go with tire pressure? Or where can I go to learn this information?

i'm not sure how much you will benefit flotation wise from using low tire pressure considering how little side wall you have. it will probably have to be an experimental thing. i would try 25-30 to see how it looks and go from there.

there are going to be a lot of factors that determine how low is too loo..
- how long will you be driving at these presssures
- how much weight will you be carrying
- how hot will it be

you might be better off going with a 20" wheel and getting a 38-40" tire with some sidewall to do the beach crawling.

most of the research I did when I was going to run 19.5 on my f-350 showed it was NOT advised to run low pressure/on sand.

I think it was due to the steel belts/ stiff sidewalls

a quick google search of truck campers that do the beach thing all the time showed some guys trying it and it not working (peeled beads/flats after airing back up)

in fact a few that run the 19.5 have a separate set of rims/tires when they take their truck campers on the beach

A very important factor is that if the sidewalls touch then heat and wear will rapidly occur. You don't want to go very far with the sidewalls touching at the lower bulge.

I had a dually with the old standard 16" wheels. I aired down at pismo beach and it did great, it even went down the sand highway. Get this, it was a 2wd with a 5"front 8"rear drop.

Both front tires were destroyed very soon after. One I noticed and pulled over and changed as it was coming apart, the steel belt was showing and much of the tread was delaminating. The second one went soon after in a violent blow out. I would never again air down that type of tire.
