So it has been a while and we are still in the demo phase. The front section of the bus is loose.. Now on to the body mounts. They are tough to get to.. Tomorrow I will take a second look with better tools.

The impact gun and had problems with the body mounts. Will try again tomorrow with a breaker bar. If not I will slice the nut with the grinder to allow the nut to spread a little.

Instead I deconstructed the section over the entrance in more detail. The door frame , bus body and van body come here together and as it turned out there are layers of connection between each of them. Better now.View attachment 590848View attachment 590848IMG_20200607_155919_644.jpg

My phone is not letting me easily post updates and upload fotos. It is citing security certificate errors.
My labtop immediately lets me know that the site is not secure.
Any body else has or had problems?

Hello joeblack5:

Took me some time to remember and find the place where I stored the attached picture, but your introduction led me immediately to this quite peculiar rig.

Economog.jpg

Just to show that maybe your primary idea of working with a Mog and an Econoline could have been not a bad nor a new one, though it looks a little odd.

Keep the updates coming to see how it goes.

Cheers.

BTW: what you see on the rear is an actual beer tank.

Busy with a lot of things but not with this conversion. Nevertheless we are creeping forward...
A beer tank seem to be a nice addition to any vehicle.
Today i cut the last skirt of the side of the bus. Also all the body mounts are now loose.
The bus body is 82" high.. that is including solar panels and escape hatch.

I put a larger tire on the mog . That raised the surface to mount the bus on at 42" So overall height comes to 124" or 315 CM
Next step will to get the backhow hydraulic leaks fixed so that I can use it to lift the bus of the econoline chassis.

I am temporarily diverting this thread in another build ..about 4 posts..

We used to have a 4*4 camper based on a 1994 E350 ambulance raised roof ..7.3 IDI. WVO.
After an engine failure due to a broken sepentine and overheating resulting in a head gasket failure we decided to go to anE350 schoolbus 7.3 powerstroke and transfer the 4*4 system.

The back was 4" low and we used 6" air springs to raise that up and improve the ride at the same time. The winch and bumper I had built years ago for the ambulance was also transferred to the bus.

This bus was outfitted with solar.. webasto tsl17 heat..induction stove..microwave.. dc fridge..dc freezer..gravity water tank..under body storage with 1/8" stainless bottom panels.

Set up for 2 adults. 2 kids..one gsd.
It turns out that the SRW version of the bus is 6ft3" inside width.. for me at 6ft2" ..that means I can sleep transverse in it.. a huge space efficiency improvement over sleeping in line...

I recon you'll get most places you want with that setup right there, and in much more comfort than the Mog! :)

Probably,. I doubt that many heavy duty overlanders would do better of road..to big and to heavy..
Anyhow the 404 with bus marriage is more a fun project and also very small. Although with all the other projects it is going slower then I would like to see.. nice enough my wife and oldest daughter got interested in the project so may be the extra energy will move it along faster. I had still small hopes to at least set the bus body on the 404

But then we had a setback with the bus on black ice.
Only me and our dog Rosie on board.

Going up a slight incline the rear end broke out..speed about 45 -40 mph... I was unable to regain control. Slid in the other lane. Rolled up the bank ,nose got stuck, back swing around and flipped on its side.
Rosie fell partially thru the glass of the busted side door and her rear leg got pinned under the bus.

I fell out of my seat on top of Rosie.. me not hurt.. then it became clear that Rosie was stuck and that the bus had to be lifted up..with a couple 2x4 pieces of wood and a hammer I was able to pound it between the pavement and first door pillar.. right next to her leg in the hope that I could bend the pillar and get her leg out.. started smelling diesel ... My biggest fear was that the bus would catch on fire and that I would have to abandon my dog..

By that time rescue crew had arrived and there were a lot a flashing lights.. I got Rosie free but her leg was limp.

Rosie's rear leg is in a ehmer sling. We will take it of tonight... 12 days later... There is some irritation on her skin from the sling and some licking.. hope the leg sticks. You can see a little of the sling in her picture.

So far good.. she has been with us as a rescue from 4 months old . She is no 11-1/2.. gets slower. Hips seem to be good but nevertheless has lost some stability in the rear ( before the accident)...

The engine seems to be running ok. Although it takes 6 sec to start..before. immediately..will see...

Frame seems to be straight..

Started an attempt to straighten things out.. the whole body is pushed over 2" on top towards the driver side...

And yes that is a unimog FLU 419 having the important duty of counterweight.
