Hey everyone,

My names jake, and I'm 18, and a senior in high school, and just got my first actual vechile. She's a 1980 Cj-7 and is in wonderful shape. Theres only a little bit of surface rust, and almost nothing on the frame and thats good for a jeep thats 32 years old and is in Vermont! It came with a hardtop and soft doors that actually don't fit. Its a 4 cylinder, 4 speed, and at the moment the engine only has 36,000 miles. I picked her up down my street for about $3,000.

What Iv done so far:

A couple of my buds and I decided to take everything out and spray bed linear on the tub and walls, and that came out fairly well.

Before:

^ We sanded everything down, and put POR15 in a couple places, and then we got started with the bed armor.

After:

^ You can see how well that came out under the front seats. The back is a little choppy, but thats because we originally tried rolling herculinar on it, but it was a bit thick and caused us problems. Therefor, I took a nice trip to the auto parts store and picked up some bed armor to finish the front.

Im looking for ideas on what to do with this rig. I Plan on putting the spare tire on, and hopefully grabbing a yj roll bar to replace the original cj one. I'd Also like to lift it maybe another 3 inches, and get some ************ Fender flares to replace the ones that are currently there. Iv also read around about people adding a second gas tank, or making the current 15 gallon tank to a 20, but I don't know whether that is a good idea or not. Any input or suggestions on what to do with my new toy would be greatly appreciated!

edit: Im also looking for cj7 full steel doors, But I can't find any around locally, and, or, through craigslist. Is there a site that sells them? That goes the same for the yj roll bar!?

Start looking in junk yards for those parts. When I looked into full doors for my 90 YJ a few years ago they wanted $800 a door. Eventually sold it, and the buyer paid that to get them.

Nice find. 20 gallon tanks where a factory option. Never really heard of a second tank being installed on a CJ-7. Keep an eye on Craigslist, I find all kinds of things there. Come to PA and I could proably hook you up with a 20 gallon tank, doors, and a big old Ramsey winch for your CJ. What else do ya need:ylsmoke:

UPDATE:

Picked up two doors for $100! Not a bad deal, they just need some paint and some small fixes!

Also got a piece of crap mount for my spare tire and fixed up and made it look all pretty and then put it on!

This week should be fixing the gas gauge, heat/cool gauge, and oil pressure gauge!

We figured out the gas mileage and got 21! That was with the hardtop and no doors on, so it should be even better when i get the softop and soft doors!

You could find one at a swap meet in your area. I added a cage to my roll bar and used another roll bar for the family hoop then added shoulder harness.
