We made the "Sprint to the G" this weekend. The last time my son and I made this trip it was to pick up the Tentrax back in 03 (He says he remembers, but he was pretty little). We left Northern Nevada friday night about 730 p.m. We arrived in Ashland around 0100 a.m.

We stayed in a dive motel and tried to erase it's memory with an epic breakfast at the "Morning Glory" restaurant. I enjoyed an Alaskan Crab Omelet with artichoke hearts and my kiddo had a poached egg with bacon and a huge portion of hash browns. I highly recommend this eatery if your ever in Ashland. No wonder the place was packed.

After our breakfast we drove for about fifteen minutes and met with the seller of the G Wagen. As we made our way down the street the G came into sight, wow! I knew we were going to be taking it home and then we got closer.

It was almost a sad feeling as I could feel the drive home getting longer and longer as I knew my thoughts would be dominated by "Rust isn't that big of a deal." "I wonder how hard body work really is?" "It can't be that expensive, can it?"

I went up there with the full intent to purchase this G wagen. The guy selling it is really cool and admits to knowing very little about the wagens. He admitted that he should have said the truck is very rusted. There are a couple of places that the rust has eaten all the way through the metal. Obviously, I passed on the truck.

The motor purrs like a kitten. The lockers work and the visibility while driving this truck is amazing. The only issue is the rust, it's everywhere and it's considerable.

I appreciate Chip posting the link as I would have never found it on my own and I only off this opinion of the truck as a guideline for someone else considering it. I have seen it, driven it and passed on it.

edit; The truck owner (Who buys and sells cars as a side job and seems like a good guy) has owned it for about a month. He states it came from San Francisco and that he needed to add a fuel line to get it running. I know it's listed as a factory A/C unit, but it's not. A simple call to EuroTruck confirmed the Factory build sheet and it does not list it as leaving Germany with A/C. The owner also said the truck had about 150k miles on it, but the speedo/odo do not work and the odometer only goes up to five figures.

J: Bummer you had to go the distance to find out the bad! You will, and you already know this, be much happier and better off finding a better G from someone a little less "fishy" sounding than this guy and one that has been better cared for.

But...you got a breakfast from the Morning Glory...and like you we never miss an opportunity to hit that cafe when we are in or close to Ashland!
