1983 Steyr Puch Pinzgauer 712W *SOLD*
You have been dreaming about building a camper to go see the world. You would want to start with a vehicle that built to handle the roughest roads and climb the steepest mountains. You would want to pick a machine that is designed to operate in the harshest conditions, but still easy to fix with a tool kit and manual. A truck with character!
Well I offer you that machine for sale…this very unique Pinzgauer was made in Steyr Puch Werks in Graz, Austria for the Swiss army for use as a mobile workshop.
The rear fiberglass “workshop” body was made in Germany and the original wooden cabinets were made in Switzerland by a local cabinet shop. As of right now the cabinets have been removed to create a blank slate for a camper build. It is clean and bright inside, the perfect starting point to be built out, the only limit is your imagination!
A very similar and more common use of this platform, was as an ambulance. The ambulance version is notably different as it lacks the cabinets, but also the side access doors that this model has. The opening side doors really make it great for camping as you can get to your gear very easily. It is a blank slate, ready to be outfitted exactly as you see fit.
Some highlights of the beast:
54,000 KM, and the mechanical condition reflects in the low KM's
Gas furnace to heat the rear compartment. (Needs to be safety checked before you fire it up)
The 4-cylinder air cooled engine fires right up, and runs great. No smoke. Shifts smooth and drives down the road smoothly.
I installed a true solid state ignition. This works beautify. You can read more about it here: http://www.pinzssi.com/
True six-wheel drive with three hydraulically locking differentials! This affords you so much traction, that your determination to make it to a camp-site will never be betrayed by a lack of traction.
All of the diff locks operate quickly and smoothly, they also disengage as they should.
Independent Portal Axels are standard all the way around.
7 almost new BFG 255/85 – 16 mud terrain tires. Did I mention that traction is not a problem? These tires are just the right size for the truck... a really nice, very expensive addition. (over $2000)
Back up camera
Ready to drive home anywhere!
Just in time to enjoy it at Mogfest!
