I am in search of some opinion on pricing for this vehicle. It is up for bid locally in a sealed bid from a local fire department.

1986 Ford F250
22,xxx miles (yes, twenty two thousand...)
351
C6 auto
4wd
looks like some surface rust on inside of bed, covered with a bad version of a home grown pray in bed liner
Evidence of some leaking... looks to be from bell housing/engine... perhaps main seal, although it is not a lot
Factory A/C
No radio
manual windows and door locks
minimum bid is $1500

As a sealed bid it is a one shot deal. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Pro's:
Most FD trucks are stored indoors.
Cleaned regularly.
Usually well maintained.

Con's:
Every mile is a hard mile. Started cold and usually hammered down right away.
Lot's of idle time on emergency scene's so engine hours may be much higher than mileage would elude too.
Multiple drivers with a "not my truck" mentality.

Pictures would help but IMHO $1500-$2000 is reasonable if it's in good shape.

Let me also add that many times pickups in the FD are used as brush trucks so it may have had a skid unit (pump/tank unit) installed in the bed which can be pretty heavy and overload an older truck easily. If you can see the truck in person check the frame and rear springs for damage.

Thanks Halligan. We made a bid on the truck and will hear today if we get it or not. We offered more than I wanted and less than my wife thought, so we'll see. I did as much of an inspection as I could and if we get it it will be good to go after some baseline maintenance work and some new tires sometime down the road.

Thanks for your reply.
