This legendary overlander, dubbed the "AllFather of offroad adventure trucks," blends the renowned durability of a 1987 Toyota 4x4 truck with the iconic 1976 Chinook Gazelle pop-up camper. Powered by the bulletproof Toyota 22RE engine, this rig was my full-time home for three years as I explored the wilds of North America. Featured in Van Life by Foster Huntington, OutdoorX4 Magazine, and gracing the cover of Toyota TCT Magazine, it’s been battle-tested and supported by the PolerStuff Tent Team—this rig may not win races, but it will conquer any terrain.

Upgrades and Modifications for Any Adventure:

This overlander has been upgraded and well-maintained for both rugged off-grid adventures and comfortable long-haul trips. Recent service ensures reliability, with new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor among many other enhancements. Key systems, including the clutch slave cylinder, U-joints, and brake components, have all been replaced, and all major fluids—transmission, transfer case, and differentials—have been freshly changed.

Equipped for extended off-grid adventures, this rig comes with a 120-watt solar panel powering three Optima BlueTop batteries, a 20-gallon water tank, and 4 new BFGoodrich 32/10.5 tires with a matching spare. It also features a custom aluminum roof rack, perfect for additional gear. The suspension includes new Bilstein 4600 shocks up front, and the rear also has new Bilstein 4600 shocks, but they will require light modification for installation.

Additional Features and Recent Upgrades:

  • Legendary Toyota 22RE engine – the gold standard for reliability in off-road vehicles
  • Pop-up Chinook camper – lightweight, easy to set up, and enhances mobility on tough trails
  • Recent comprehensive tune-up – spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, throttle body cleaning, and valve lash adjustment
  • New clutch slave cylinder, U-joint replacements, and extensive brake overhaul (new rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and brake hoses)
  • Fluids replaced: transmission, transfer case, front/rear differentials
  • New alternator and power steering belts installed
  • Three Optima BlueTop batteries – need charging, and a NoCo Genius charger is included
  • 4 new BFGoodrich 32/10.5 tires with a matching spare
  • 120-watt solar panel installed on the roof for consistent off-grid power
  • Custom aluminum roof rack built for carrying extra gear
  • New Bilstein 4600 shocks up front; rear Bilstein shocks included (light modification required for installation)
  • Rust-free frame treated with Magnet Paint Co Chassis Saver for additional long-term protection
  • LED bumper lights wired directly to the dash for improved nighttime visibility
  • Custom upholstered split full mattress that converts into a couch for optimal comfort and functionality
Note: The winch shown in the photos is no longer included with the vehicle.
Additional Note: Interior and engine photos are incoming.

This truck is a living piece of overland history. The unbeatable combination of Toyota’s legendary 4WD reliability and the nimble Chinook camper makes this rig ideal for reaching remote destinations that other vehicles can only dream of.
