Price reduction - $55k

Van is located in Bend, Oregon.

1989 VW Vanagon Syncro Weekender is up for sale. Our family has finally outgrown it (3 kiddos) and we are moving to California. Van is located in Bend, Oregon with clean title in hand. If you are looking for an honest rig, with its fair share of scratches, bumps and bruises (we use it with delight), that is equally great as a daily driver and very capable off-trail then this van is for you.

Overland ready, no expense spared. Many tasteful upgrades to make it a very capable and reliable rig. Our family has traveled all over the US and much of Baja over the years with it.

We have all/most receipts dating back to 89. We are long-time owners who purchased it originally from a friend and would love to see it go to the right, new owner.

Upgrades:
• 2003 3.0 H6 Subaru (from an Outback LL Bean Edition) professionally installed by Burley Motorsports and Abercombie in Santa Barbara, CA. The engine power band is excellent for the van, gets 16-18 mpg, and is very quiet and smooth. It drives like a modern van.
• Recent top-end engine rebuilt 3K miles ago professionally by Crooked Finger Designs in Bend, OR. All new parts including water pump, chain, tensioners, fluids, etc. As well as clutch, AC line, New brakes, etc. Engine is painted and most vacuum hoses replaced - she looks new!
• Transmission rebuilt by Weddle Industries in Goleta, CA (premier Transmission supplier) 75K+/- miles ago with every transmission part upgrade possible.
• We only use the highest quality engine oil (changed every 4K miles), Trans oil (every 15K miles) and all scheduled maintenance. All fluids recently replaced (Brake Fluid, Coolant, Power steering, etc.)
• Pop Top Roof Professionally installed by Mastercraft Motors in Santa Barbara, CA. Installed just like the factory did it by removing every spot-weld and replacing with a Westy roof clip to insure structural integrity. Build thread here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=604368&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
• Decoupler (AWD/2WD on the fly) and Rear locker.
• Recaro Front Seats with Swivel on Passenger side. Matching gray leather and dual arm rests. These seats are amazing and were purchased from GoWesty.
• 200W Zamp Solar Obsidian Panels on roof, Charge Controller, Aux fuse panel with 50A/H Battle Born Lithium House Battery under drivers seat that powers all camp related equipment/accessories.
• Upgraded Front and Rear Disk Brakes (Large South African Brakes in front and GoWesty Rear Disks)
• 5 Mefro 16” steel wheels (powder coated gunmetal gray) wrapped with BFG KO2’s 225/75R16.
• Fox Fully Adjustable Suspension with reservoirs from GoWesty.
• Gowesty Springs in front, Upper Control Arms from Burley Motorsports, Extended Rear Trailing Arms and Pivoting Spring Perch with Eibach Springs in Rear from Burley.
• T3 Heavy Duty Sway Bar and Drop Links from T3 Technique.
• GoWesty Front and Rear Bumpers plus Dual Swing Outs with Aluminess Box for storage/cooking platform.
• South African Front Grill with brighter H4 European headlights.
• Stainless Coolant Lines, New Radiator, etc.
• Powerflex Urethane Bushings mostly throughout.
• Burley Motorsports 930 Rear CV’s. German Front CV’s.
• Scan Gauge to monitor systems.
• VanagonLife Center Console with Blue Seas Kill Switch. VanagonLife VOW Rear Window to Mount Hi Lift Jack and MaxxTrax’s and VL Rear Vents.
• Upgraded Sound System with various USB plugs throughout to charge all devices. Plugs to install electric Fridge, etc.
• Removable rear facing seats with weekender interior (we actually never use the rear seats (were in storage) and have a fridge/camp box usually installed in same location).
• Power everything: Windows, Cruise Control, Locks, etc.
• LT Truck Mirrors.
• LED lighting inside and out.
• Fiamma F45S Awning.
• Yakima Roof Racks plus Yakima Cargo Box.
• Plenty more.

In full transparency, this is not a show-quality specimen even though we daily get “thumbs up” and are often complemented around town. It has its fair share of trail scratches, bumps, etc. Some rust spots do exist that I documented in the photos - they are all easily addressable if you choose to repaint or just drive as is for the next decade. Notably, rust is found commonly for these rigs given their age… there is some rust on rear hatch window sill (the worst part where I would just replace with a donor rear hatch), front bumper lip, driver side rear seam, and a small spot under pop top. Also, there is currently a P0420 Cat Converter Signal code and a very subtle hiccup only at cold start for couple of seconds that is likely related. I haven’t sorted it yet (fuel, O2, or sensor related likely) as it drives great otherwise and no other drivable issues noticed.

$58,000. Price reflects it’s honest and transparent condition as we try to best represent it online. It drives extremely well and has taken our family on many adventures. VW’s come with their quirks, but this van is well sorted and will be perfect for the right buyer.

We can coordinate a pick up at Bend/Redmond Airport if needed.
First come, first served.
