1990 Penthouse top on newer van?

I recently just purchased a 2000 Ford E250 Quigley cargo van. I would love to install a penthouse top on it, however i do not plan to spend that much on my rusty van. I was traveling home the other day and saw a 1990 SMB with a penthouse top that looked to be in great shape. They don't want much for the van, has anyone ever stuck a older top on a newer van? Last I heard, SMB wasn't supporting the older tops anymore so I would be on my own for parts. Thanks for your help

$1,500. The interior is currently gutted but the top and canvas appear to be in good shape. 302 motor with 160k miles, decent body, a few minor rust issues here and there.

It will work, hell I've seen VW tops put on a full size van.

It will be a lot of work... the older tops/vans are wider at the rear than newer ones (92+). I'm not sure the exact dimension differences, but it has been previously documented and discussed. I don't know of anyone that has actually done it.
How good are your fiberglass skills?

I was actually just investigating the same thing. Found a 89 econovan with 74k on it for $1,000 OBO with a penthouse. I am gonna go scope it out and see what it would take to get it on my 96 PSD econovan.

That seems like a pretty sweet deal on the '89. Yeah I was wondering how much modification would be required as my fiberglass skills are poor and my van won't fit in the garage. Let me know what your find, it would make for a great poor mans penthouse.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I'll do with the van. It seems like a waste to scrap it, but I dont see a lot of folks interested in a van without a roof either....
