1990 suburban

This is a suburban that has been very well maintained over the years by my father. I always thought that it would be a great expedition vehicle. He was lost last week in the pacific surf and now it is time to sell off his possessions. I enjoy reading all the post on exhibition portal and dreaming of the day when I could take a grand overland trip. That is not today, nor anytime soon, so I have to sell this.

This 4x4 truck has an aftermarket posi traction limited slip rear end (not a locker, but do not know the brand off hand), up-graded brakes and suspension, heavy duty roof rack, dual battery system (new optima red top as of April), new alternator (high output), aux lighting, and newer AC compressor. It has had its engine rebuilt (maybe 100k ago) and transmission rebuilt (less than 50k ago, I believe). No leaks at all! (my father was very picky about leaks in cars). The third seat is available but not in the truck right now. This is the silverado package k1500. The truck is registered in California till July 2011. This is a classic looking truck, if you like the older style that could be a great tow rig (though it was never towed with in the past). It is green with gold accents and gold interior.

The bad news: it has a salvage title (small dent in rear barn doors from about three years ago, no problem opening), it has 291K on it, and the paint is oxidized in places. Kelly blue book private party in fair condition 1990 is $2435, without the listed upgrades. I'm now asking 1800.

Here is a link of the craigslist ad until I can upload pics directly to expedition portal.

Hi, thanks for asking. It is a gas, not diesel truck. Located in Petaluma California, about 45 minutes north of San Francisco.

Price drop!

So, no interest on this suburban so I guess that blue book is way off for the value. In good shape private party value is listed at 2935, fair at 2435. (With rack, limited slip, dual batteries etc not counted in blue book pricing).

Price now reduced to $1800.

First let express my deepest sympathy for your loss. It's such a sad thing to loose a parent and all the future times you would of had together.

A couple questions:
what size engine?
does everything work?
why the salvage title?
will it pass CA smog test?

Thanks, Jim.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. This was a very sudden loss and the family is just trying to pick up the pieces.

This is the 5.7l 350 engine. As far as I can tell, everything works. This was a very well maintained vehicle. AC is cold, windows all roll up and down (one might be slower than the others). I dont know about the cruise control (never tried it). The truck has 16" rims on the rear and 15" on the front. The original 15" rears come with the truck. The transmission has about 35k on it and the motor about 142k, contrary to what I wrote above. (I just found the records so I could verify the numbers).

The salvage title happened about 2 years ago. The truck was rear-ended. You can see the two dents in the rear doors. Not much damage at all. They still open and close fine. That and a broken tail light was the only damage. Well, the body shop estimate was 3k to fix the damage... and that totaled out the truck. I would have argued it and claimed the truck was worth more and gone for the 3k, but my father took the insurance companies value, minus the buyback fee, and just kept driving.

Interior

If folks needed to see what the interior seats look like, here are two more shots. The front bench is covered with a seat cover but if you lift up the cover it looks to be in the same excellent condition as the rear. The rear seats were almost always folded down and so have very little use. The front bench has been covered with a seat cover almost since this truck was purchased.
