My 4WD beast is headed into the hands of its new owner to enjoy. Hope someone on the forum inherits this PNW vehicle. You will probably not find a nicer stock Gen 1 Montero than this. Not a mint collectable, but a well-cared for daily driver.

1991 Gen 1 Mitsubishi Montero LS, V6, automatic, white, chrome package with rare sunroof. 134,754 miles. Great shape. Located in Oregon. Asking $9,000. Selling because the transmission has started to exhibit some problems - beyond my capabilities to fix. Local transmission swap estimate is $2300 (reliable local mechanic estimate), not sure what a rebuilder might charge (less than that, I assume). Currently, she won't shift into reverse, and doesn't shift into 4th gear at highway speeds. Runs fine in 3rd at 55 - 65mph. Everything else works great, including 4H and 4L with locking differential.

I am the third owner. Purchased from T**s in Utah, known in the Montero gen 1 circles for his restoration and sales. The original owner was in Washington.

I’m Selling A Very Nice, Rare, Original And In Great Condition
1991 Mitsubishi Montero LS 4 Door In Summit White with Brown Cloth Interior.. This is the fully loaded LS model and the last year manufactured for the 1st generation model..

DESCRIPTION:
For sale is an extremely well maintained, garage kept 1991 Mitsubishi Montero LS loaded model 4X4 4-Wheel Drive, automatic transmission with only 135k original miles with a clean and clear title. Never abused or taken off road, incredible condition for a 30+ year old truck . Runs and drives excellent. All services are up to date. A very rare and hard to find model with chrome wheels and sunroof. It is in excellent original condition, showing less than average wear and tear. It comes with the original owner's manual, original key, tools / jack and even the original Mitsubishi brown gas cap. Vehicle has the original Mitsubishi glass all the way around except the windshield. Comes with all the bells and whistles available at the time. Its a rare, unmolested survivor.

DETAILS:
ENGINE
3.0L V6 Engine . The engine runs excellent. All service and maintenance are up to date:
New oil and oil filter
New transfer case gear lube
Front and rear differential lube changed
New radiator, coolant flushed and replaced
New fuel filter
New air filter
New NGK spark plugs, wire, distributor cap and rotor
New front brake pads not long ago
Break fluid flushed and replaced
Power steering fluid flushed and replaced
Greased and lubed
Timing belt and tensioner
All new belts
New rebuilt left right heads including valve grind, valve guides, seals, milled, head bolts and lash adjusters
New water pump and thermostat
New front and rear main seals
New transmission input output and drive shaft seals

TRANSMISSION:
It has the original automatic transmission. 4Wheel drive work perfect.

INTERIOR:
It has the original brown cloth interior. It is in great condition with some light damage but not noticeable (very hard to find in the condition). Also has a rare drivers side factory suspension bouncy seat and it is very comfortable on the bumps.. This model also has the inclinometer, volt and oil gauge. The carpets are clean and not soiled. The dash is crack free in excellent condition. (see pics) Comes with New Weather Tech floor-mats.
Additional passenger bouncy seat.

PAINT AND BODY:
The body has minor rust but is in great shape, color is Summit White. It does have some very light dents and or scratches on the body but nothing serious. Rock chips have been touched up with a matched touch up paint. Headliner is in great condition.
Undercarriage cleaned and corrosion coating professionally applied.

WHEELS AND TIRES:
Original rare chrome wheels that you never see. Montero has all terrain mud tires all around including spare. Brand MudClaw M/T TIRES 31 x10 x 50 on 15'' with new chrome lug nuts. Also comes with a full size oem spare wheel and matching tire..

ELECTRICAL AND ACCESSORIES
It has the factory A/C system. Has auto door locks and power windows. This model has headlight washers. No warning lights on in dash of any kind.. Sunroof does not work and was sealed by previous owner. Rear defrost does not work.

EXHAUST:
Exhaust system is in good shape with new gaskets 0 leaks. Has all new exhaust gaskets

SUSPENSION AND BRAKES:
New front brake pads not long ago.. New front and rear shocks not long ago. Rides nice and smooth.

You will love this classic Montero's nice looks and great ride with fantastic reliability not produced in today's vehicles .. This truck burns 0 oil and does not blow smoke on start up.. This truck is truly hard to find in this condition and i hope it finds a good home.

The OD temperature switch, mounted to the intake manifold, is your most likely culprit for no OD. Have you looked into this?

Thanks @rxinhed . I haven't checked the OD temperature switch. However, during my troubleshooting, when I turn off overdrive via the control button, shifting goes even worse - it stays in lower gears until much higher RPMs are reached. Overdrive switch currently does have an effect, so that behavior, plus the fact that reverse is a problem, leads me to point to the transmission.

But I will definitely look into that OD temperature switch before shelling out for a transmission overhaul!

Another thought I had was replacing the AT kickdown cable - haven't tried that yet.

Had a reputable transmission specialist take a look. Tranny parts have just deteriorated with age. Torque converter fried and will need remanufactured unless I can find one!

Dropping the price.
