Do you know what kind of (flywheel) torque & horsepower the engine is making?

What is a typical, everyday around town/mixed MPG? 15-28?

Are the 4.10 gears the stock ratio (I think)? How far off is the speedometer true vs/road speed.

Total miles/Km on the car; engine; tranny?

Is that the same 4sp. A/T that would be behind the US market 3.0L V6 that would have come stock in that 4Runner or a different tranny?

How much lift does the 4Runner have over stock?

You did the engine/trans swap yourself (except for the wiring)?

Do you know what kind of (flywheel) torque & horsepower the engine is making? The engine is rated at 140hp, 250 ft lb (IIRC) and this is without an intercooler or large diameter exhaust, both of which made a noticeable difference in power. Lots of guys in Aus and NZ cranking out more HP with various mods as well.

What is a typical, everyday around town/mixed MPG? 15-28? I've never had a tank lower than 18 (first tank after engine rebuild, all town) and never had a tank higher than 22 (from Ca to Vegas, cruise at 75)

Are the 4.10 gears the stock ratio (I think)? How far off is the speedometer true vs/road speed. 4.10 gears are stock for this motor. Speedo and actual speed are within 3% of each other.

Total miles/Km on the car; engine; tranny? The 4runner has about 200k miles on it. The drivetrain has ~46km on it now.

Is that the same 4sp. A/T that would be behind the US market 3.0L V6 that would have come stock in that 4Runner or a different tranny? No, it's a different trans. This is the A343. I understand it is quite robust.

How much lift does the 4Runner have over stock? It's got a 1" body lift and a ~1.75" rear coil lift. Front end is stock, T bars cranked about 1/2".

You did the engine/trans swap yourself (except for the wiring)? I sure did! Took me nearly a year.

Very nice, thanks for the reply. I was pretty excited about it yesterday morning, I’m trying to distract myself and do a reality check ☺

Well, I just got back from a run to Utah's Canyonlands and back. It was a killer trip.

I took mileage numbers at each fill. From my numbers, 60-65 will get 24 mpg. 70 will get 22 mpg. 80-85 will get 19 mpg. I drove a tank at each speed. AC use also seems to have a .5 mpg negative effect, if that. I spent a day in 4x4 (high and low) and got 20.5 on that tank, which also involved a bit of 55 driving on back roads.

I also found that there is not a hill between San Diego and Moab that requires this rig to shift out of overdrive. She just cranks up the boost and plows up the hill. Even coming back there were 50 mph head/crosswinds and still, no need to downshift. :smiley_drive:

Great truck! If I hadn't just spent the last year building up my suburban, I'd be taking a really hard look at this. Good luck!

Oh man....I'd go for a trade in a second but I really need a 3/4 ton truck. Do you happen to know the payload of the 150?

What's your typical mpg?

Pic? Any idea on price?

The wheels are turning here...

Don't forget the fees CA charges for a 3/4 ton without a shell versus a 1/2 ton with a shell. Unless you are moving a lot of weight every day a 1/2 ton and a good trailer for those once in while heavy days will be cheaper in the long run than a 3/4 ton.

That is a sweet 4-runner, you did a really nice job on getting the intercooler in there.

Sounds like a really nice truck...I would be up for a trade but I'm probably going to need to go with something a bit older as well in order to keep the $$ down. I keep forgetting how much $$ newer trucks are these days. Thanks for the offer though.

:)

BTW, what is this talk about trucks with a camper shell being less to register in the state of CA? It sounds like it might be worth it to buy a camper shell for registration in order to save some bux?

Thanks for the info! I have heard the camper shell thing too and thought it made good sense...I might give it a whirl, or just register the truck with my buddy in AZ. Enough of california's legalized theft.

I have had several emails and phone calls, but I have been a bit stern with them about test drives. I know it is a novelty and that definitely attracts lookey-loo's and tire kickers. I'm pretty busy now with work and don't want to waste time and fuel for nothing.

If someone is here with cash in hand, I'll gladly take the time though.

I've had more than a few friends who have driven it and they were all quite impressed. It's a sweet rig. Diesel power and an off/on highway capable machine are a great match for expo work. For example, I drove it to Utah last week and it cruises along at 80-85 as easy as pie (actually tops out above 100 mph) and then I locked the hubs and drove it over Elephant Hill in Canyonlands. :ylsmoke:

Update:

I think I'll give it another week on here and then go to Ebay. After seeing a nice 2LTE (vastly in-superior to the 1KZTE engine, however) powered 1990 4runner sell for $12,000 on Ebay a few days ago, I'll fix the dented doors, put a new coat of paint on the hood and list this bad boy on Ebay.

I'll be very saddened to see her go, but duty calls. Someday I may get the chance to build another one. :sombrero:

Could this be converted to manual trans ? if so could it be the R150 / 151 series transmissions ?

Yep, it can be done.

You just need the bellhousing that is specific to the 1KZ (can be had from Japan, Aus or Europe) and then the usual clutch parts.
