Found this - might be interested. My FZJ80 was the perfect rig and I miss it dearly. This is the first of the FZJ-80s

This one is white, of course. It's been for sale for about three months yet he is unwilling to budge on price. Here is the email the fellow sent me:

It seems you do know your 80's. ;-) I thought I'd answer your questions, then if you are still interested, we can talk via phone. I have no idea if the headgasket was replaced, although the mechanic here at Kendall Toyota thought that it had. If it was, it was before me or the prior owner owned the rig.
I just rebuilt the front end. The birfs are stock, and not clicking or worn out.
It has an OME lift, J's in the front, 863 heavies in the rear, Full OME shocks/ steering stabilizer, and Slee blue cc bushings.
No lockers.
It has a weld-on set of Marlin sliders.
The leather is crusty on the two front seats, with the driver's side having a failed seam/hole that is covered by a genuine sheepskin cover. The two rear rows are near-perfect.
NO rust whatsoever on this rig. I brought it up from SoCal just because I hate dealing with rust.
I had in inspected by Kendall Toyota here in Fairbanks, and it has no major issues. Just a cracked windshield, minor oil seepage from the rear main, worn e-brake shoes, and an inop. radio antenna.

It has a Harmon Kardon Ipod interface and aftermarket speakers. It also has a autostart, ARB bumper, heavy-duty running boards, lift kit, new Diehard Platinum battery, freshly rebuilt front axle, new starter, new radiator, all new coolant hoses, new front main seal, new oil pump seal, new extreme cold weather power steering hoses, new front rotors, all new brake pads, sythnthetic Mobile 1 throughout, Toyota red antifreeze, CDL button, and I'm sure I'm missing other stuff. I'm firm on the $8500

Sound reasonable?

That seems a little steep. It is well set up and maintained, but still a little steep.

However, which mods would you not do? If you were to buy a 4-5k 93 and do all of those mods, you would probably be behind even without the maint.

If it is set up how you want it, then it is a decent price--still a little steep---but decent.

If you wouldn't build it the same way, then pass.

Without seeing pictures or knowing mileage, it seems kind of high. Generally non-stock parts decrease value due to the possibility of hacked on parts (like the welded on sliders, electrical installs, etc), although if they are done properly, and are things you would do anyways (or can remove) this can be ignored.

I bought my completely stock 80 last year for the same price, but it had lockers and maintenance records back to 2001.

Hmm, hard to say. Is the suspension "new", Is the rubber fresh? Ful Floater rear?
I just bought one and went through all these scenarios, parts included into the price type of scenarios. I found one with new parts(that I wanted) and stock suspension that I was happy to choose the spring rates that I wanted.
If all the parts included are in good shape and what you want it would seem fair. I think sometimes a "lift" attracts a different customer and some times a seller thinks its worth more because of it(even if it is old and dead) when in reality that's under a grand for a small suspension upgrade
I'm no expert just my $.02

That guy is pretty active on Mud and it looks to be a well built rig. Its Expo white also, that should add fifteen hundred alone.

If its truely rust free and in Alaska already it is a fair deal.

True - but I hope to be out of here by the end of summer. Once I'm back in america, there would be more options. If gas prices stay stratospheric, then the value of our rigs is likely to suffer again as it did a couple of years ago.

The 4runner is doing the job and I do not have to sell it nor do I need to buy anything else either. I haven't ruled this out, but he has had this for sale for a while already and our economy, normally recession resistant, is starting to contract. Sometimes the value has to be driven out of a rig, yes?

It had 102K when it sold and moved to AK in '06. Not a ton of use in the past few years. The current owner has been selling since October.

Found a great looking 1997 down in Oregon. 170K miles, OME 3" Lift, lockers, head gasket documentation etc for $6500. Can have it shipped for $879.00

The fellow in fairbanks is like many in AK - no concern if the rigs sells and it will take $X to get it. He has had his firm price since October. I have seen the same unsold cars for sale at the same, over market price since I moved here 8 months ago. They are obviously not getting the premium they think they deserve, so why not move on price to facilitate a sale? Surly they know they are out of market. There are 4Runners in town that span the price range of $2000 - $7000 for the very same condition and mileage; the only difference is asking price. Amazing...

Us dang Alaskans and our unwillingness to move on prices. :ylsmoke:

BTW: this site is AWESOME! I can't believe I've never been here before! Anyways, a buddy told me that my 80 was getting some attention on this site, so I had to see what was up. I guess I'll have to keep the 'ol 80 and just build it up Expo style unless somebody gives $8,500 for a rust free, semi built, not abused, maintained, FZJ in AK all with under 130k miles.

Welcome to ExPo! This is a great site and a wonderful community.

Thanks again for getting me the info on your rig. The threads on Mud tell a good story. If the mods were newer I would be a little more tempted, but right now I need to watch every dollar and shipping rates have, very surprisingly (due to time of year?) become much more affordable. Best of luck if you sell or keep it!

As a side note, when I got a shipping quote this AM, the lady told me that the number of cars they are shipping private party is 3X what it was this time last year. Look around Anchorage and you will see seven huge used car lots empty and out of business. A little more checking showed two of the banks in town are sitting on about 200 cars re-po'd from the dealers and they are about to dump on the market at liquidation levels in a week or so. The times, they are a-changing!
