Cynical old bastard
I put some pictures up in the 'post your...' section. Then realised how few of you had ever come across an Mpi - they were rare in the UK let alone anywhere else except Italy. There are 106 200 and 300 series Mpi's left in the UK - of this less than 25 are 200 series. They weren't sold in LHD anywhere else in any numbers. Italy bought them for the police force...
The engine is the 'hard as nails' 2.0litr 16 valve Rover T16 lump. 136 BHP (SAE) at 6,000 RPM (red line starts at 7,000 rpm) peak torque at 2,250 rpm
The Mpi was panned by the press - typical press! In reality it's huge fun. It's lighter than a 200 Tdi on the front end by 100kgs, so simply doesn't need ARB's. It just keeps accelerating without running out of get up and go. On big roads it just sits at 80mph, sipping juice at almost 30mpg (and that's real gallons not little US ones)
Okay it doesn't tow much more than 1.5tonnes without grumbling and driving off road is like
a Suzuki Samurai - all whizzy 1st gear low stuff
