1995 4Runner - the Alaska Rig

Spring Break in AK

Well, we are a little above freezing and the ice and snow are making the annual retreat. Atlas, the Mighty German Shepherd and I took a route that ended up forcing us to use the creek bed to gain any distance. The still thick snow would occasionally collapse under the 4Runner and my buddies Titan, making forward progress hard. Thankfully neither of us have any leaks and the stream is pure round pebble. Some pics:

My buddy Phil getting ready for a walk. He was diagnosed with terminal leukemia (with four to six weeks to live) three years ago. Never guess it if you met him:

Pretty much the only route we could take for several miles:

Love the ground clearance of these older Toyotas:

That's looking great. My eyes opena little wide these days each time I see a nice 4Runner build. I've been trying to find a nice 80 series to build but between their weight, poor mileage and ridiculous maintenance costs are a big downer.

I should have mentioned the addition of 1" wheel spacers for the non-Toyota wheels. I think the ARB and winch with sliders are all I could want for this little rig.

After much debate, I ended up going with the BFG ATs in 265/75/16 Logic was that I can take advantage of the long life, good ride, and snow-ability of the ATs and if the need for more serious traction presents itself, I can strap on the Rudd chains. Less compromise for what I will be doing and more options out of just one set.

The 4Runner platform is pretty cool, OK MPG and hauls me and my pup wherever I need to go. But I'd load it with C4 and have a party in order to get my Land Cruiser back.
