1995 Montero SR overheating

The dealer that has the Gen III I'm interested in also has a 1995 SR. It's by far the cleanest one I've seen.

Problem is, it overheats. They replaced the radiator, hoses, belts, checked thermostat, and whatever else is obvious, and it still builds up heat quickly.

Is this common to these, and might there be an easy/inexpensive fix for these that a general mechanic might not be aware of, but an enthusiast would?

It's not common that I know of. My '94 didn't have those issues. I'm just guessing here, but did they check the fan clutch? Water pump?

Did they check to make sure the fan wasn't on backwards.....ive heard of that happening once...not on a Montero though.

Thanks guys. Good suggestions.

A faulty head gasket should have other symptoms besides just overheating...no? If that's the issue, or, the transmission, I'm running away.

I'm going to run this by my mechanic.

That's correct. If you check the oil (look for chocolate milk looking stuff) or coolant (check for coagulated 'stuff' in the coolant) or it could also be brown/chocolately if really bad.

Alternatively it could simply be allowing the coolant to escape into the cylinders allowing it to burn of. It could be minimal enough that you'll loose a quart in a week or so of driving which will cause the overheating.

Yeah, unfortunately i've been there, done that.
