1995 RRC LWB - Deal or Dud?

Just started looking at these for a potential DD for the wife, and expo rig for weekends. It fits our needs as a roomy on/off road vehicle, but don't know anything past they look cool stock and better outfitted. Is the 95 more or less desirable than other models/years (heard it has a lot of one year only goods)? This will be our first and don't want a bad experience. Here is a link to the one I'm looking at, for $4K is it worth it or overpriced? The issues known are wheel sensor that the seller is fixing, and rear windows and sunroof are in-op. A new sunroof is included but not installed. Please let me know if it should stay on the short list or pass & keep looking. Thanks in advance!

The '95 "Soft dash" is a great truck and has been one of my favorites over the years! I have owned three LWB '95's and every one of them has been fantastic to own and drive.

The '95, as is the case with most of the other RRC and Discos of that vintage, suffer from rust (especially around the rear window frame and the sill joint on the rear doors), neglect, and the usual mechanical issues that most Rovers have to deal with. There are also a lot of little gremlins that usually show up from time to time such as the power seat controls, cracked wood finish, and sometimes a leaky sunroof, but by and large they won't leave you stranded, and are as comfortable as 90% of the cars made today!

I would look it over very carefully, and try and find someone on the board here that knows Rovers and is close to you that would be willing to take a look at it. If it is in decent shape the asking price is definitely not out of line, and it sounds like it would be a great way to pick up a nice overlanding rig for not a lot of coin!

My suggestion is to buy a rover off a "rover enthusiast" that put a lot of love into their truck. You may have to pay a little more but it would be worth it. Buying a questionable rover from a wrecking yard is a gamble, especialy for a rover newbie. Plus that price sucks.

It's the owners personal vehicle. He is bringing it to my work Thursday for inspection. With new two stage paint in original color I think it seems fair and he has pre paint pics. No accidents.

I disagree on the pricing-if the truck checks out and is relatively clean I would like to see a better example for sale currently that is less money. Remember, this is a '95 LWB, not a "standard" RRC LWB.

In fact, if you can find me a nice, clean, white '95 LWB with less than 140,000 miles for less than $4,400.00 please PM me-I am looking for one!

For comparison, I just sold a mint one last year for under 5k. I paid almost 1/2 for it initially but I did have to put some work into to make it reliable, Something like this would be nice for the original poster.

I would have loved to have that setup! Since that is no longer available I Have to pick from what's available at this point and I don't think this is that far out of line. What in your opinion is a fair price for this example?

Well if the engine as well as the interior and exterior is in good condition then the price sounds good. The LWB carries a premium for some because it's long enough to sleep inside if one is short enough. I recall the LWB has 6" more leg room in the back and is like a limo.

The '95 are also desirable because along with having the "soft" dash of a Disco, it also has HVAC controls that really work.

There are several people in SoCal that buy/sell/repair RRC so getting parts and service is easy and inexpensive. Anyway, to get an idea of what RRC can sell for, take a look at the link below. This guy is in Fullerton.

Good to know, thanks Yubert! Its one of a few platforms I'm considering, just got back from Vegas this afternoon after driving out yesterday to check out an "excellent condition" rig that had body and paint damage on every panel, and the interior looks like it was a welding booth with burn holes everywhere including the headliner. Needless to say I was an unhappy camper.
The rig in the post here supposedly has 0 rust anywhere, excellent mechanically & only has the issues listed. We will see. Where should I be looking & poking to verify the no rust claims?

Definitively check the wheelwells, rear tailgate (both upper and lower), the rear crossmember, sills, and rear cargo floor. If he lets you pull up the carpet, check underneath the front area and rear cargo floor for rust and wet carpets. If it truely is rust free, then his price maybe worth it. That also assumes that the mechanicals are good too. I noticed it still has the EAS suspension too...you either love it or hate it. Check for constant running of the air pump.

Any reason not to consider a discovery? There's a low mileage white 02 for $4k but I seem to remember some terminal engine problem that affects 03 and earlier in a thread around here.

Price seems fair, especially so given new paint. If the truck is originally a SoCal truck rust should be a non issue. My black and tan lwb was one of my favorite Rovers that I have owned.
