We are happy to share our newest member of the fleet! It is a 1996 Ford E 350 Wheeled Coach Mini Mod. Sporting 116,000 miles on the Powerstroke 7.3, 2 wheel drive (for now), and pounds of burning man dust. It started life as a City of Reno ambulance then in 2011 was sold to the hospital in Winnemucca Nevada where it was used as medical stand by for burning man and as a reserve ambulance.
How we got here:
My amazing travel partners (girl friend and 95 pound yellow lab) and I have been traveling out a 2006 4 door tundra for the past two years and over that time built a fairly comprehensive list of needs, wants, and goals for our future camper.
Our first and foremost goal was safe gear storage. Being able to lock our bikes and skis inside and away from the elements is a must.
Next was easy access to a comfortable sleeping and eating. We end up doing long stretches of driving to get to our playgrounds and want to be able to throw it in park, eat, sleep, and get back on the road with ease.
Lastly, size. We need interior space big enough to accomplish the above goals but still small enough to fit down our overgrown forest service roads and capable enough off-road to get to our favorite spots.
Build priorities:
Taller tires for improved capability until we get to 4x4.
Clean the dust up and organize the wiring.
Interior up fit, leaning towards as modular a design as possible.
4x4 conversation + 37s.
