I actually think the LC is a better vehicle. If you can afford to fuel, mod and maintain one, I would get that over a 4Runner. It has more room and better offroad capability. The only downside to a LC is those damn birfield joints that cost and arm and a leg to replace!

And definitely check the Classifieds over at IH8MUD.com... lots of great 80's and 100's for sale in the sub $10k range.

They're not that bad, though pricey if not done by oneself. I've seen birfields last well into 300k miles no issues with no maintenance and not even yet swapped sides.

The LC should last a million miles with a rebuild or two from someone who has had any care of it.

Factory solid axles, coil suspension, potential of factory lockers, and four wheel disc brakes.......easy choice to me.
