Sorry about the cross post to a diff forum, but whenever someone mentioned the letters "X" and "D" together, two trucks come to mind. Serg's truck (the founder of LRO) and Marcus' truck (a member of LRO)...

Actually Serg, there were 500 Disco XDs made in 1997, 250 came to the US, and 250 ROW. All were built from SDs, pulled off the line. They are known to be faked, by repainting an SD, but look for the absence of roof bars on a real '97. I say it that way, because, there are 40-50 (Real) XDs from '96, and they did have roof bars. 28 were used in the 1996 ECO-CHALLENGE in British Columbia. There are a few good pictures on the net.

Ho Chung has one and I think he's been trying to sell it. My son told me about one the day before he was deployed, back in January, and had me go buy it. I drove it to Maine that weekend, and 2 miles from the end of my trip, passed another. The next day, I went to track down the owner, found him and he flipped out when I drove in, and I told hime I passed his the day before. He says, "which one was it?, was a girl driving it, or a boy?" Turns out the guy has TWO of them. I took pictures of the three lined up with the mountains in the background(temp was a balmy -15F), but they are too big to post here. One of his is an original ECO Challenge '96, and the other is a 97, 4 serial number digits away from ours (Check and make sure it has a Special Vehicles plate rivetted to the apron in front of the radiator, right side, report the SN back here. BTW, I paid WAY less than 10K, ans have a line on another MINT one for WAY less also, but my wife is saying no at the moment, thinking an NAS110, an RRC, a D1, two series trucks and a Freelander are enough

Funny XD's are stripped down SD's with a roof rack and yellow paint, blacked out "last years" wheels nothing more. Some dealers went so far as to fit them out with aftermarket bumpers and stuff to help them sell becuase they weren't out fitted enough.. On the bright side you get to start with manual seats and a pretty color.

I think there was an origianl Eco-challenge XD being sold in Las Vegas a while back (I think) with a SafariGard bumper.

Didn't the XDs come with factory steering guards?

From my factory Land Rover press kit. XD stands for Extreme Duty. There were only 250 built. 200 for the states and 50 for canada for 1997. I was unaware that they built any others for any other location. They were to be a replica of the 96 Trek Event discos, which was a US dealer only event. There are also the 96 Trek event trucks which have the roof rails with tall roof rack and thoses were all sticks. Not sure if the 1996 Ecos Challenge support trucks are all sticks or not. I rememeber seeing them at auctions the 90s from time to time. Basically yes they are a SD. The 97s came with the brush guard & light guards, fog lights, steering guard, low roof rack, (no rails) rear ladder, rubber floor mats and cargo mat. Waterproof seat covers with the xd logo and they have yellow and black stripes instead of the green and white stripes. All were automatics in 97. No sunroofs and manual seats. XD logo tire cover and small xd logos on the front fenders and a double black stripe running down the sides. There was a Event decal package stripe and decal kit available from the dealer. (funny the one in the link above has the flags on backwards just like mine. I guess alot of people started with the passenger side not knowing the flags should be blowing backwards. One thing most people don't notice right away was they also have the standard front bumper plastic corners. They are small and are made for a disco without a spoiler. They do have a special vin plate by special vehicles on the radiator support. There is also no woodgrain on the interior pieces. Cloth seats and wheel centers were painted black. They used the 96 Castor whel because that is what the 96 event trucks used. They show up on ebay from time to time. There was just one on a fe weeks ago with a rooftop tent. I think it ended with a best offer of $13,000. I have the press kit and factory sales brochure for the XD. Also the Land Rover Adventures tape of the 96 Trek event and also the eco challenge event. The Trek event was actually televised on ESPN 2. with Bill Baker commentating. I taped it as well. It i like a hour long Land Rover Commercial. In 1997 the Trek event used range rovers in AA yellow as well. They did build 400 Range Rovers in yellow that were fully loaded HSEs. There was a 97 Trek RR on Ebay last month in washington state.
