1997 GMC 3500 Ambulance Camper

Good job on the plates! Are these stainless or polished aluminum?

I think these look so much better than the ones people make out of diamond deck aluminum, or painted plates, or even worse...painted diamond deck plates.

Thanks. I used the stainless from the cabinet I demoed out.

They had left two of the red light reflectors, so I ordered amber arrow lenses and wired them as rear turn signals to block the holes back there.

I recently found this site. I'm picking up a 1994 E350/ ambulance on 1/16/'17. I bought it from a small town in northern Idaho, its had an easy life and is in incredible condition. Love the 7.3 and the care its had. Records from day 1 so it should be a great platform.
I'm a lot better at motorcycle restoration, painting, welding, and hopefully ambulance to RV conversions than forum interaction. That said, I hope I'm doing this right. Any ideas on converting the right rear corner storage area (outside access) to a shower? I know its small but Atving in the dunes, you need a shower.
I'm thinking a portable toilet, small sink, stove, microwave, solar, maybe new paint with more of a high end Class A paint scheme just to de-ambulance it a bit. Oh, and a nose cone over the cab to make it look less boxy. Any ideas. Oh, one more, a comfortable bed for 2.
Thanks in advance,
Tucker6606

I restore old Vespa and Lambretta scooters. I also have some vintage Japanese motorcycles.

Originally I wanted to install a shower, but don't think there's enough room for what I want to do. I still want to do a composting toilet, sink, TV, solar and a portable floor AC. Part of the reason for going with an ambulance is that it fits under the overhang in my driveway. A roof AC would be too tall.

You can easliy bath with No-Rinse like products that hospitals and the like use, completely negating need for a typical room dedicating to showering. For those that build in the water storage cause they enjoy the warm water shower at end of a fun day, one of the ways have seen it done in a space saving way was to multi use the side entryway. Lock the door and have a curtain to pull around. You stand on the lower inside step while showering. Add a valved drain in there too. Added advantage to that spot is you can plumb in a boot/foot washer. The misses in the troop would like that idea of having a way for "the boys" to not drag dirt in with feet or shoes as they enter the Ambo. Just a kitchen sink sprayer or use shower hose for shower and shoes.

This is what I'm thinking about doing...

Instead of using the platform/shower pan at the floor level, I'm planning on dropping it down to the bumper level to create more headroom and ensure no water can enter the cabin area. Instead of using permanently attached hinges, I'll employ a system that uses two additional receiver hitches located on each side of the doorway and mounted directly to the frame rails. This flat pan will also double as a cargo rack for carrying firewood, etc.

The fabric enclosure will be designed so that it is weather proof and insulated from the heat and cold, so it can be left in place while using the A/C or Heater. It will also be designed so that water does not enter the doors, either from rain or the shower head. The bottom of the enclosure will have a floor that will sit on the cargo rack and contain a drain port so the gray water can be captured for downgraded reuse or directed to a sewage system in a paid campground, etc.

The additional space created could also be used for the Port-o-Potti. I've also considered making the top of the enclosure out of wood or aluminum so that a LED light and an exhaust fan could be mounted on it.

My apology to the owner of this rig for not being able to give you credit for the use of your pictures, but I don’t know who you are. I found the pictures a couple of years ago on this forum, and also found this ‘For Sale’ add, but no contact information.

No, I don't. If I did, then I would know who to give credit to.

However, in the 'For Sale' ad the owner states, "We had all systems installed professionally and everything works well when out in the rough or plugged in at RV park." Also, "Fold out shower in rear. Customer design -- works great." With that being said, I believe the 'Installer' is the same person who built 'Meg Ambo', since he built a similar system on the left rear side of his rig.

The builder of Meg Ambo has sold his rig and is no longer on this forum. He had several build threads going at that time, which were removed for some reason, and that is where I found those pictures of the rear shower stall.
