1997 Mitsubishi Montero (Euro spec) - $16k - Alexandria, VA

Selling my 1997 Montero (LWB), 2.8L turbodiesel w intercooler, 5 spd manual transmission, 122k km (~75k mi), rear air locking diff, leather interior, heated front seats, aftermarket stereo head unit w Apple Carplay/Android Auto.

Imported to the US from northern Spain in 2022. (Yes, these are normally badged as Pajeros outside of the US, EXCEPT in Spanish-speaking countries where they maintain the Montero name because Pajero does not translate so nicely...)

I have been daily driving this Monty for the last 18 months or so. Runs and drives exceptionally strong for a 27yo vehicle.

Service / maintenance / upgrades under my ownership (all receipts onhand):
-5 new tires
-flushed/filled all drivetrain fluids
-new drive belts
-replaced all suspension bushings (Luso Overland polytuff kit) + alignment
-rebuilt fuel injection pump, cleaned injectors, new pre-heaters
-replaced valve cover gasket
-Frontrunner Slimline II roof rack + rear ladder
-fog lights mounted (not yet wired)
-undercarriage professionally treated with Noxudol

Incredibly solid. Zero rust anywhere. Will try to get more pics up soon.

Just curious about drivability and fuel economy - will it cruise at hwy speeds? Like 70-80 mph? And do you have an idea of what mpg you are getting? TIA! I have a 1998 blister fender 2.5 but have been wanting the diesel...

I don't do much highway driving (almost exclusively city traffic for me...), but it has no problem doing 65-70mph. I've never really taken it above that, mainly for lack of opportunity. Fyi engine rpm is about 3k at 110kmh.
Been getting about 19mpg (again, city driving), but I suspect it could be dialed in by a competent diseler as that's down from what I was getting before the fuel injection pump was rebuilt. Probably need to play with the fuel delivery rate and turbo boost point, but since the timing is spot on, the idle is fine, and there's virtually no smoke, so I just haven't bothered.
I do love the diesel though. Have another diesel 4x4 (1995 Nissan hardbody), which is partly why I need to send the Monty to a new home. Thanks for checking!
