1997 Montero LS Minnesota

Hey guys!
My name is Joel and I'm up in Moorhead, MN(Across the river from Fargo, ND)
I have browsed the forum a couple times in the past, but recently acquired a vehicle that was worth posting about.
I work in sales at a Dealership in Fargo and I sold a minivan on Monday to a young couple who was trading in a Montero. After visiting with the guy for a few hours during the process I could see that he meticulously maintained the vehicle, so as soon as he left, I asked my used car manager if he would sell it to me rather than selling it to our wholesale lot as we do not sell vehicles with more them 150k on them. He let me, but asked me why I wanted this piece of... you get the idea.
I had been waiting for an old Land cruiser to get traded in since I started there, but after I saw this thing, I wanted it.
When I first got into cars I was what you call ricer. Loud stereo and muffler. When I started getting into cars a lot more I figured out going fast was way more fun. Had a couple Turbo 1st gen ford probes, a bunch of swapped Hondas, and my most recent car was made for auto cross, a 91 Miata with heavily modified suspension.
A lot of my tuner buddies have fallen off the map, and Autocross got boring. Not to mention my car had turned into a race car and wasn't very fun to cruise around in anymore. A few of the guys since then have done trucks and SUVs and have enjoyed them so I figured Id try it out.

These are the two pictures I have of the vehicle right now. I just bought it yesterday. Since then I have cleaned it up quite a bit, secured the mudflaps and taken off the running boards. My goal is to bring out the "Safari" look in it While still being functional enough to drive it daily. Would like to keep stock wheels with large tires(don't know if that's possible), put a rack on top of it, and a bull bar or brush guard. Make no mistake I plan on driving this thing on the street about 95 percent of the time. Might see some mud/ trails once or twice a year, but I would like a nice drivable vehicle that looks cool, and has some off road ability. All suggestions are definitly welcome! Thanks!

Got a chance to throw some lights on. Found these for 12.99 each at Northern Tool. Not looking for quite as big as the 7", but after I put em on, I like 'em.
I need to get the final touches done on the relay/Switch setup, there is a storm coming through on Monday night and I wanna be ready for it!

Decided to try to my hand at a project I found on a Jeep Forum. The plans I found are for a no welding required DIY Roof Rack. But I think I will probably try Brazing it first, just for a cleaner look; And I don't want to grind the coating off of the conduit to weld it.

I made it of out 1" EMT conduit. Measured my factory rails and crossbars, and added 8" to the front of it. Plan to have some lights on the front of it, maybe a couple rear facing as well. I have the pictures of the bent main hoops for now, will post some more once I have time to start assembling.

Should cost about 60 bucks after I'm all said and done with it. Its going to look silly with a rack on the top and still rocking the factory pizza cutter size tires...

Nice looking ride. I've lived in Fargo myself on 35th st for a couple years. Big city with a small town feel.
