Hey guys,
i found that one here:
http://crystalmotors.net/details.html?VID=1-119l1237836489
it's not mine - yet.
i talked to the car dealer over the phone... one owner, all service records, fine undercarriage, minor/minimal rust @ wiperblades. and it's a K294 = e-locker!
watcha guys think?

(if you read my former posts, you'll notice that i wanted to downgrade - well, i changed my mind :) )

thanks,
andreas

I thought the 40th Anniversary Editions were locked front and rear. Is this the case?

This one has decent miles and is not a bad price if it's been taken care of. One owner and all the service records is a bonus.

Sure looks like a good deal to me.

wikipedia says: "Many were manufactured with the optional electric front and rear locking differentials, keyless entry, port-installed roof racks and running boards. There are some examples that did not have many of these extras."

I could be wrong, and not that it really matters all that much, but I don't think that is a 40th Anniversary edition. Didn't they have 2-tone leather seats? There is a badge on the front fenders, but I can't see what it says.

Not all 40ths were locked, as far as I know.

But, like I said, it doesn't matter. It looks like a nice cruiser, at an okay price. I would ask if the HG has been done. It would be a bonus if it has, but not a huge deal if it hasn't. It's not the ticking time bomb everyone seems to make it out to be.

now i gotta out me as not to car/toyota wise..: what does HG stand for? hot grease, honey glazed or happy gears?

ya, the magic button is hidden - but i was asking the dealer to read me what the vin sticker is saying and it read "k294" - that's e-locker, right?

dunno bout he 40th anniversary. ya, among other things it should have 2tone leather. don't care about that much. maybe that enables me to chisel off some $'s.

HG=head gasket. This was a problem for some 80 series cruisers.

Though I visited a shop, dedicated to rebuilding LCs, recently in central TX and was informed that for a lot of those cruisers, the problem can be a pesky little heater hose at the back of the engine and not the head gasket. Apparently, this hose can spring a small leak that is undetectable until it's too late.

Here's a good write-up on an 80 series from another member.

Yep, and HG can occur even in a truck treated with a white glove. Many believe it to be a failure on Toyota's part as the replacement gasket is different.

Its a Collectors Edition. That is why no two tone. And that is what the badge says. Many people advertise any 1997 as a 40th because '97 was the fortieth year LC's were imported in the U.S. (I think) - for detailed info go to Ihatemud. CE's and 40th's have temperature control that are different from the rest - IIRC that is the biggest differences except for two-tone in the 40th and the special badging. I had a white CE - I miss it - don't miss the screwy temp control tho. I think that price is high - but the one owner is a temptation especially if records come with it.
