1998 Land cruiser with 240K mileage

My neighbor has 1998 LC with 240 K on it. in last year Timing belt/water pump , serpentine belts,all hoses, front axle, front brakes, and air conditioning condenser is done.However due recent visit to Toyota dealer he was told the LC needs lower control arm ball joints boots torn. there are little rust as well. he is asking for 5 K. engine and trans seems fine, I didn't see smoke or any thing like it.

please advise.

He is second owner. under the truck is mostly surface rust, but behind plastic bumper there were pieces which it was failing.

I think you should go with a 98.

so 97 is with little less millage 213K, and it appears to be with less rust. what would it be to choose 98 over 97 ( V8 vs v6)?

Sounds like you’re not too mechanically inclined. The 97 will typically need more maintenance than a 98. Stick with the 98.

The 97 also has a straight 6, not a V6. You might want to look at something a little simpler and easier to maintain.

all these LC prone to valve guide seal failure, head gasket like any other truck with high millage?
