The Americans want Patrols!

It's funny listening to you guys saying how great it would be to have Patrol utes in the US - we really don't have much else than those or Landcruiser utes in Australia!

We spend all our time saying "why can't we have a turbo diesel Silverado/F250/Titan/etc/etc/etc..."!

I have contemplated importing GQ/Y60 Patrols for some time to the USA. I actually had plans myself to bring the first one in (first one known, definately there are a few here already) in 2013.

I kind of just decided I am done importing, my new Nissan diesel motor I imported this last June being the final item I import. In the last 5-8yrs things have changed a lot here in the USA in terms of importing. it is now really expensive, I mean really expensive whereas it wasn't so bad 10yrs ago.

FYI, TD42T outfitted pickups (Utes) and wagons can be found pretty easily down in Latin America. I actually have shopped for them in Panama where there are a lot of Utes. Believe it or not prices are very good for these trucks in Panama. Example; a TD42 Y61 Ute in Panama with low miles can be had for $20,000usd. A Y60 TD42 wagon with low miles can be had for around $10,000. The thing is shipping it up here on a boat won't be cheap. Driving it up would actually be cheaper! And the last problem is in 2013 we can only import 1987/88 Y60's which makes it hard to find the right truck.

Perhaps as some more years go by and it opens up more years and trucks for import I will consider it again. There certainly seems to be a number of people willing to step up to the plate and buy + own one. Last bit though, parts support scares away any but a few who say they would buy one here in the USA. Nissan will never sell these here and so the only option is importing. And with an imported truck you are on your own when it comes to parts and also working on the truck.

cheers

Ok so a few updates on the car

Front diff completely rebuilt and arb front locker installed
Auber gauge to monitor water temps
Completely stripped the interior and rustproofed and sound deadened the floor and installed new underlay, vinyl and then removable carpet over the top. This has made a huge difference to reducing road noise and also reducing the temperature from the turbo through the firewall
Just got a heat exchanger today so I will install that on the weekend so I can have hot showers on our trips
There were a few other things but I forgot.....lol

Wow, this thing is stellar! The fridge sliding/drop down brackets are very cool. Its great to see that much love go into some of these 'older' vehicles. Looking forward to following along.
