1998 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 that's had engine converted to Toyota 1KZTE diesel with automatic trans. Has about 403k on the odometer but only about 60k or so on the motor..going off previous owners info. It was a freeway commuter before it was converted. Had zero problems with it and have driven it all over the Western US. It got parked when I got my diesel cruiser over a year ago and just recently sold the Landcruiser. Recently purchased property of my dreams and need some cash flow to get some construction going. Registered as a diesel in CA so smog only requires a visual check to make sure everything looks factory...wish it would have been a 97 so wouldn't have to deal with it. Basically a stock 4runner with a diesel...no suspension mods done. Asking 9.5k obo. Located in Santa Barbara County, CA.

Well the price has been 10.5k for almost a month now. Can't even really find a RHD import for that much. Imported motors will cost you at least a third of that price plus all the misc parts that also need to be found/imported to actually do the conversion. Cost of labor alone if you were to pay a reputable company to do it is near 20k. Then to get it titled and registered as a diesel in CA....it just takes a particular buyer which I'm willing to wait for or do a swap over to my tacoma or keep the rig since I sold my Landcruiser diesel already.

Cool set up and the Cruiser seemed great. This thing has extreme mileage so that's probably what people are looking at. Myself included. The motor is very interesting but what about the rest of the rig? Wheel bearings, diffs, steering/suspension components? I assume that's all been done once or more. If not, it will need it all and that's a ton of work and time for a lot of people. I'd like to know more though. Also, what exactly is the smog process on this thing?

People will be killing each other over this rig when the end of the world comes >>>> On a serious note - why not keep it? You've built a rig that will now go around the whole and is easy to work on. Your price is more than fair, but you are correct sir, it will take a certain buyer no doubt. If you know these rigs the miles should not scare you.

The issue is that someone with $11k to spend on a 4runner can buy a V8 4th gen for that price that has low miles. Diesel is cool and a novelty, but other than mpg I can’t inagine there aren’t many benefits over a 2UZ.

I understand that argument. But 3rd generation 4Runners are holding their value better than 4th gens right now. The 2UZ is a great engine no doubt, but an all ready swapped diesel 4Runner with stock bits is a great bargain here

That thing is AWESOME. 11.5 is one tough sale, though. Best of luck!
agree especially with 400K on everything else...balljoints, bearings all the moving parts etc... for sure not an easy sale at that price but wouldn't be surprised if people want it as a novelty :)
