1999 Montero

Did 1999 year montero came as RS modle or they were sold in North america in base models only, there reason is I went to Edmunds .com and I can select RS or LS models , all I see is base.

There was only one base mode 08-00 sold in continental US which was pretty much top of the line package with all possible goodies as far as rest of the world is concerned contrary to its name.

I find 99 with 143K millege second owner, and looks decent, new brake as well, however no history record, not sure if timing belt, waterpump, etc,.. were replaced, he is asking 4k is it good price?

Well, let's be clear. In the USA, the '98 and '99 were only one base model, but there was a winter package that included heated leather seats and the rear locker. Plenty of those model years do NOT have these features, although they are not technically a different trim level (i.e., like the LS and SR of the previous generation).

I think it does have seat warmer, so it did came with winter package. do you think 4000$ is good price?

ok, I went and saw and test drive 1999 montero, I think it has winter package because I saw botton for rear locker. exterior and interior is clean, with normal wear , engine runs, however I saw oil leaks under the truck and radiator water was low andvery oily, I notice evidence of brownish reseduearound engine , I am not a mechanic, but I thought it needs waterpump and valve gasket. he is asking 4K , but I am thinking he may take 3500$ aswell. he bought 5 months ago not sure why he want to unload it, let me know what you guys think.is this good buy, or I am expecting pouring lots of money into it. also on dash board where it shows 4wd options only rear passenger light was green. is there any thiong wrong with 4wd?

Thats too much money. I've been watching Montero for 5 mos and they don't sell. Example a cherry one the guy wanted 5.5K for 150 K 96 SR one owner, bumper wench, snorkle, oil changed every 3 K, timing belt done, flawless paint & body no leaks on sunroof, new tires super condition and it didn't sell for 4 mos in CA, until he dropped the price to 4200!!!

Your guy with the 99 is smoking crack, offer him 1800, tops 2000, cause you will need to put 1200,new radiator, valve job, and maybe 4x4 solinoid in it.. Remmber these things get 15 mpg, the market isn't to hot on buyers. You have to be able to turn and walk away, Pray for the right one and it will come in His timing.

If there's oil in the radiator then it might be a head gasket problem and you do not need a new radiator. So plan on a top engine rebuild, that's up to $1800 or so if the shop does it. The light problem is most likely a burnt bulb if one is lit.

So I would say don't buy the one you looked at.

As far as the statement above. Montero's will sell very fast if the price is correct. $5500 is way out of line for a 1996. I paid $3000 for my 1998 and after driving it for two years I redid the top end myself for around $400. All the cost was parts, The machine work I did myself in a friends shop.

By the way my 98 will get 20-21 mpg on the highway any day of the week, mostly 17 in town. Most on here have similar results.

thx, I need to look some where else, he won't take less than 3500$, here in NoVA there is only 2 for sale , and both not worth what they are asking . I called mitsubishi dealer. They are charging 1200 for timing belt and water pump, and belts, and that is without top build. I Guess search continue,..

Thx, I called him, explined that it needs engine work, water pump, etc, he is sticking to his 4K asking price, I am looking some where else now and even possibly Gen III.
