I think EV has to make it to the this class for it to be successful, yes. They can't remain as Type X/Y forever if it has any chance of phasing out ICE.

At ~$60k (dual motor) It would have to be my DD but its made entirely of Stainless Steel, so its meant to take damage and get scuffed up. There will be a period in which it will probably have a nice wrap, but knowing me I'll get tired of it soon and want to go overlanding in it. The suspension, and lack of parts as Tesla is sadly known for, is what really strikes me as the big unknown as the chassis/sheet metal is way more stout than anything Mitsubishi has ever made for non-military purposes.

i played with my Monteros everywhere from Big Bear, Joshua Tree and Big Sur in California, I've treked them across UT and AZ in 120+F heat a few times and drove through the avalanches of 2019 in 3 feet of snow in CO and made the mountains at 10k+ elevation in Colorado my playground. All of them had the battle scars to go with it. I don't think these rigs are meant to stay 'pretty,' and I cannot recall the last time I went to the mall to be honest.

Suffice to say, the Cybertruck has a lot to live up to. But if it some how doesn't, then I think I'm just going to have to accept that I had a good run with them and just stop playing with these rigs entirely and be boring with a Model 3 or something.

I'm not saying the Cybertruck will be the best replacement, but after the kinks are worked out I hope it will be at least 80% as capable as my Montero(s) have been, if so I'll be satisfied.

Get it down to a 5 minute refueling (recharging) time, then I'd be interested. Otherwise - forget it. Until then it won't even be close to 80% capable. Capable to me means able to drive it conveniently where I need or want to go. Last weekend I drove 1600 miles round trip - there certainly was NO SUPERCHARGER at the turn around spot. This trip (hunting vacation) would have been impossible with a pure EV within the time constraints allowed by work / personal schedule.

I agree on the charging speed, maybe even add solar panels to the roof from factory? It sure looks like technology is heading into that direction (even the charging stations). But not quite there yet, if I ever do upgrade though I may consider the new bronco if I'm going to dish out that kind of coin, or maybe just set up a truck or van and even then I won't be driving through thick brush like I do now lol, that's why the Montero will get heart transplants if need to be lol

LoL - that is going to be one heck of a lot of roof solar panels. Baseball stadium sized. When we first got our Outlander PHEV I thought about putting in solar panels to charge it. Battery capacity is 13,800 watt/hours. or roughly 8 x 300 watt panels - thinking 6 hours per day of great sun (never will happen though). A CyberTruck is 200,000 watt/hours so 112 x 300 watt panels?
