2" receiver plug-in chuck box?

Tinkering about different ways to create enough storage in my JK Unlimited for 2 teenage boys, 4 Yorkies, my wife and I for one week camping trips, and seeing how much space my lousy little kitchen box takes up, I was thinking about a water, dust and mud-proof chuck box that could be plugged into the 2" receiver for transportation, like a hitch rack, with 4 fold-out legs that it can be set up in camp independently from the vehicle.

Anybody actually done something like this? :coffee:

Sounds like a good idea. Our travels with our 6 month old baby maxes out the room in our 4runner. Our chuck box is a large rubbermaid action packer. It does the job and keeps things clean and dry for the most part. I think that if I was going to go through the trouble to make one for the receiver I'd make it larger than what we have now and store additional things in it/on it.

Another suggestion would be to use one of those receiver baskets to hold the box and additional gear. Mine is pretty big (it'll hold 4 of my chuck boxes) but at $50 from Harbour Frieght I could stand to cut it up and build something that will fit my needs.

Here it is when I bought it. I mounted some bike mounts to add more utility.

Key thing will be to keep it light. Unless you plan to use it mounted to the JK you'll have to be able to move it when loaded, and from the sound of the situation you may have to be able to do so by yourself at times.
