Man- you guys know how to live!! I'm jealous of your camping. I'm on call 10 months a year- 7 days a week- 24 hrs a day. I can't ever get away- but those two months I live it up. It's always good to look at your thread to get me longing for more camp time. Keep it up!
Small update. Over the last year or so we have had a sleeping platform in the bed. It's been very nice to have storage and a flat bed. However its also cumbersome and frankly to big. The old platform was 5 feet wide 6.5 feet long with 2 17x20 storage areas. This was nice for sleeping but took up the entire bed. So I had to take the cooler in and out also ment the bed was always dirty and damp. My wife and I also noticed how much space we wasted. Also on out last trip I learned that my truck was right at 8000 lbs so we have decided to trim some fat. Our sleeping platform is now 66x40 and we will now sleep side to side instead of front to back. The line of thought hear was we are short and cuddle when camping so waste the majority of the bed any way. This allows us some space to put coolers and other items in the bed and leave them there. With our move in 8 days to the coast of Washington we wanted to be able to keep thing inside and not in the rain. As the last platform it is 12" high with 3 storage areas. We still use plastic totes to hold the camping supplies that slide nicely under the bed. We are hoping this will give us a cleaner bed space and more useful vehicle.
This is roughly half the bed space we had and leaves roughly half the box area for other items.
If you scroll up you can see the mess we had on our last trip. With having a hatch style topper door it drips in the foot of the bed after 2 days you have damp bed that dose not dry till I get home and wash every thing. You will also notice the cooler sitting on top of the bed. So every time it is set on the ground dirt is picked up and set on the bed. 3 dogs transfer enough dirt we don't need to help it along.
The platform us a simple build using 2x2 and close to 3/4 plywood I believe it was like 19/32 or some odd mesurment. It has held up and all I did was cut the front section off and add a bit if bracing to the original setup.
