$17k - 2001 Discovery SE with 5.3L 2005 LM7 - 192k miles on the chassis, similar on the motor (donor vehicle had 190k at time of install, 10k miles since the swap)
.
Ithaca NY 14850
.
The swap was done with supervision of full time mechanics along with the amazing help of Aaron (who helped develop the Alternative Conversion Engineering engine control box) for the wiring. Everything is torqued to proper specifications. It runs with no check engine lights. The disco lived most of it's life on the west coast (Washington) It has spent 2 years in Ithaca NY when we moved out east.
.
The engine itself is out of a 2005 GMC yukon with similar miles to the disco. It had 190k miles and the disco had 183k. It was a female driven company vehicle for a hair salon. With good oil pressure and other vitals, my forensic opinion is that the yukon, nearing 200k miles, had a few snapped exhaust manifold studs. So it was probably loud and throwing CEL for o2 sensors. Normal people would see this as a time for a completely new vehicle. It has received new spark plugs, new oil pan and oil pan gasket, new water pump, new engine mounts, new exhaust manifolds and gaskets, new 150 amp alternator, PS pump, PS lines, aftermarket 26k GVW trans cooler, trans cooler lines, new battery, new intake gaskets, knock sensors, valley cover gaskets, and more I'm forgetting at the moment . It does not leak any fluids from the engine or transmission. The pavement is dry, crazy right? The fuel pump also has a 48PSI regulator rather than a 40psi regulator to meet the LS requirements. It is running dual derale fans with PWM fan controller and a nissen radiator.
.
The build itself is centered around the Alternative Conversion Engineering kit, which ties the signals produced by a standalone LS harness to the signals required to run the LR side of things. So there is a standalone ECU for the LM7. and all the standard ECUs for the LR. The LR harness is thinned down to the minimum signals, with the CEL tied into the CEL for the LM7. The LS engine harness and ECU is a standalone unit from BP automotive. suspension wise, it has RTE castor corrected arms, RTE springs, Terrafirma HD shock towers (with RTE adjustable towers ready to be installed), along with extended stainless brake lines from Lucky8. It also has a terrafirma HD steering rod set and terrafirma HD steering stabilizer. Due to the taller overall height of the LS engine, extended bump stops are required to keep the front axle from contacting the oil pan. I've found, with the current oil pan, that +3" bump stops are required, hence the +3" lift. Ashcroft HD axles front and rear with spare front and rear axles fully assembled. Also spare wheel hub and many other rover parts I've collected in the years owning this.
.
Transmission was replaced under the previous owner around 150k miles, due to the prop shaft breaking. Under my ownership, I replaced the front driveshaft and converted the rear driveshaft to a U-joint driveshaft, converting it from rotoflex coupler.
.
ARB front bumper, ARB side steps, falken wildpeak 235/85/r16 tires (32") with ~10k miles on them, ulraflex 4x4 LED 130w headlights, Tire relocation bracket.
.
New drivers window regulator. All the windows work, the door locks are on the fritz though. I have the link for replacement motors to refurbish all the door locks for ~$100 if you see the need.
new heated windshield installed in the last few hundred miles
comes with replacement A pillars as well, the current ones are in good shape, I purchased replacements for when the windshield was getting replaced
The sunroofs have been fully removed, resealed, drains cleared, re-epoxied back on. Head liner has been coated black.
Rear quater has been sanded, inspected, rust neutralized and repainted using POR 15 products. The rest of the chassis is undercoated. The axles have also been sanded and repainted. You can still read the original stamping numbers on the axle. I thought that was pretty cool.
.
It is currently running the stock differentials, not the 4.12 with ashcroft air locker diffs pictured. They are pulled in preparation to be sent back to lucky8 for them to take a look at them. We can work them into the deal if there is interest for that too.
.
The pictures are front when I did the swap. In terms of the outside of the vehicle, little has changed apart from the ARB steps being bed linered black on the diamond plate (pictured). I will get up to date pictures of the exterior once I have washed it, buffed and waxed it. I figured these were good enough pictures to get the ad listed. It's a land rover, it has small things like the door lock actuators and an AC recharge but has been 100% reliable, even for my trip from ithaca NY to bentonville AR and back, including the 1200 mile trip back I did in 22 hours. It is rock solid.
.
I'm selling it to move onto new projects. Specifically to build a Subaru swapped westy. Price is OBO. Offers taken either via phone call or in person. I am happy to sell the baja rack separately if the prospective buyer is not interested and can take that off the price.
.
I'm not going to disappear once this goes to it's new home. Happy to walk through the entire build for the prospective buyer and will be here for future reference when needed. Comes with all the spares I have/bring with me, comes with all the documentation and receipts I have collected, I've added the ACE instructions under the "files" tab of this group but can print them out as well.
