Hi All, I have a 2002 3.7 liter V6 Tacoma, SR5 ext. cab with a TRD off-road package. My 4wd does not work--when I push the 4wd button nothing happens, when I shift the vehicle into 4 low, my truck lurches forward and feels like it is engaged, but all that happens is that the truck goes into a low gear and the front wheels do not turn. This will throw all of you for a loop as well--I do not even have a 4wd indicator light on my stock dashboard, nor have I ever messed with the dashboard. I bought the truck in 06, and have never tampered with the 4wd or used it, though I have tried to engage it plenty of times...I live in South Carolina and do not go off-road. Any clues as to what might be the issue?

Probably vacuum leak or solenoid issue. Sounds to me, you should take it by a trusted local mechanic.
If you have the button on the selector the You have an electric motor for 2-4 selection, not vacuum. Have you checked the fuses?

Here is a link for a 2003 FSM, download it and look at the wiring schematics for it. That will show you what the system consists of and from it should be fairly simple to trouble shoot it.
