2003 20th anniversary edition , seems to be in exl condition with 88K miles, original owner. seller asking for 7K, and no timing belt has been changed.
my question is what is factory recommendation at 88 K miles , and what would be the good price?

I have plan to see this tomorrow.

Mitsubishicars.com can answer the first question, and nadaguides.com can answer the second.

And i'm more than happy to help when i can. Belt needs to be changed, $7k is a very fair price, maybe try to beat them up a little over the belt.

I think changing timing belt is recommended around 60-80k miles. I just picked up a 2003 20th anniv edition with only 32k miles on it from a retired gentleman for $7k. I think $7k is a fair price if everything else checks out ok.

I just paid 7k for a 2003 limited in excellent condition but no maintenance history from a dealer. Going to spend about 1k doing maintenance to get it up to speed.

Do you suspect an electrical issue? Look for dashboard error lights after engine start. Exercise the 4WD selector lever and check function (or at least watch the dashboard indicator lights). There really aren't any specific electrical problems on these rigs.

If you're taking it to a shop to be checked out, ask them what they charge for the timing belt job. Call around and you'll find out what the going rate in your area is. Most people seem to allow about $500 in labor alone for this job.

I went and saw , test drove it. even though looks ok , but no service record and nothing was changed except oil change . I never test drove Montero's and I like to visibility they offer and ride is nice, but I have to look for something else with previous service record.
