2003 F-250 transmission question

We recently bought a 2003 Ford F-250 pick up with the 6.0 diesel and an automatic transmission. The transmission lever has a button marked Tow/Haul on the end of it. The indicator light no longer lights up and the transmission no longer shifts differently when I go to select the tow/haul mode. Is this as simple as a bad fuse or am I looking at major transmission work? I like the ability to have the transmission help 'hold back' the trucks speed on long down grades and now it doesn't do that.

Thanks Charlie! My point was......and perhaps I wasn't clear, Is this computer controlled feature on an electronically controlled transmission something that would be disabled by a switch or is it perhaps a programming feature. I am not in a location that lends itself to laying on my back underneath the dash poking and prodding at the fuse panel.

It's a button that talks to the ECM. No fuse. Likely a bad button or the program that runs that function "got lost" and needs reflashed.

As Buliwyf suggested, its just a different calibration for the trans. I don't know how a function could "get lost".

Make sure the switch is working correctly, and follow the wiring to make sure the connection is A-ok.

"Get lost" as in a line of ECM code getting corrupted and ceasing to function. Happens all the darn time.

Check the wire

There is an issue in the steering column where the wire rubs and shorts out. Pull the cover on th column and look for the wiring and worn insulation.

Hope this helps!
