Before I bought my 2004 Montero Limited I was driving a 1996 4runner with the 2.7L 4 cylinder and was looking to replace it with a decent 4th Gen 4runner. The Toyota tax in Seattle is insane and not worth it my opinion. I sold my beat up 1996 4runner with 230K miles for $4K. I decided the used 4th gens 4Runners weren't worth the money so I picked up my 2004 Montero for $4K, spent another $3K on tires, a suspension lift, and preventive maintenance. The Monteros are much more comfortable and have a great traction system.
