2003 Tacoma Anti-lock breaks out/no e-locker help

I have a 2003 DC Tacoma that had the anti-lock brake light come on about 6 mo. ago. The e-locker does not function as well.

I had the auto shop teacher do a diagnostics check and it showed rear speed sensor was bad.

My question is: can a check be done to the system with jumper wires or other means to verify his diagnostics before I buy a couple hundred dollar part that can not be returned?

This truck has had the grey wire mod.

Thanks

I've had problems with the anti lock sensors on a trailer before. Dirt and crude fowls them up. Try getting a water hose and see maybe if you can wash the contaminates out. Also if you can find the control box with the led lights in it for the sensors, get a good size magnet and pass it by the box. On the one I had that would reset the thing to put out the light. I don't know if that will help.. Good luck.

the bos you are refering to is the antilack brake box? do you know were it is?

There is no "anti-lock brake box" on your Truck. I'm not really sure what Hookman is talking about but you certainly don't want to go waving magnets around electronic control modules.....

There are the following very expensive parts that you don't want to "jump", poke, prod or mess with unless you know what you're doing.
1. Acceleration/deceleration sensor
2. Electronic brake control module
3. Hydraulic control assembly
4. Steering angle sensor
5. Yaw rate sensor, and finally
6. Wheel speed sensor (qty 4)

If a scan tool showed a bad speed sensor and you don't have a known GOOD one laying around (from the same year and model of truck) it's time to step up and buy one.

YMMV RON

PS You might want to "undo" the gray wire mod and put the electronics back to stock before going any further. Any wires that were cut need to be carefully soldered back together. The old High School "twist and tape" doesn't cut it on electronics this sensitive.....

OK I finally got around to messing with the ABS. I found a critter had chewed through a wire. Tied it back together and the ABS light went out, good. But now the ABS kicks on briefly during every normal stop at about 15mph. The ABS works normal at panic stops.
