2004 Disco SE - new engine

New price - some paint chips fixed, diff guards re-painted, tail light fixed, etc ---

Ok, the ball is officially rolling after about a year of screwing around and putting it off.

My Disco has 71,500 miles, is located in Los Angeles, CA and the reserve on auction is $10,000 - that doesn't even cover the cost of the new engine let alone the truck it is in. The ad is a bit cheesey and the wording is a little flowery, but you have to pander a bit on ebay. Any lower and I'm going to just set it on fire and claim insurance (kidding, mostly)!

I'll do my best to help out Expo members with delivery and/or taking it for an inspection at a mechanic of their choosing if interested. I honestly can't go any lower on price though. It is a smokin' deal as is and it is not worth me selling it for less.

A few recent repairs are as follows:
New engine (short block) - not a rebuild.
Valve guides
Coil and plug wires
Front driveshaft and U-joint
Recently resealed transfer case
All records - always dealer serviced
About 3,500 miles left on the warranty

It's a great truck and I'll be sad to see it go but it is time for a diesel LC and I can't afford one until this thing is gone.

Nice vehicle.

"I won't be able to afford to keep it up properly in the near future."

What maintenance is pending that's so expensive?
Who installed the new short block?
Does the engine work have a warranty?

Actually, there is absolutely nothing that I am aware it will need - and it has been gone over with a fine tooth comb by the dealer. I am just a natural worryer (worrier? Damn, I wish I was a better speller). Service and repairs aren't cheap and I'm just not sure I'll be in position to afford them when they do eventually come up. With the new engine and a little warranty left, I figure now is a good time to sell. Besides, I'm trying to buy Lynchmob's LC and the money I was planning on using for it is tied up.

All work has always been done at the dealership. Early on, I had South Bay Land Rover do the service. Then, I tired Hornburg once (and only once). Land Rover of Scottsdale did the coil and wires (and tipped me off about the drive shaft!) because I was stranded out there. After than, it has been Thousand Oaks Land Rover all the way. Great guys.

As for an engine warranty, I'll have to sift through my records and let you know. I'm sure it has some kind of warranty, but I'm not sure what.

amendment

Just for clarity, I wanted to add something to my last post.
In regards to any upcoming things that will need to be attended to; possibly brakes or shocks. I'm not currently having any issues with either, but they are wear items and will need to be taken care of at some point.

Engine warranty

Ok, I checked with the dealer and new engine has a one year/unlimited mileage warranty on it.

The oil ring on the #1 piston became cock-eyed and made a nice oval out of the cylinder so the block was shot. Not a bad way to get a new, free engine. : )
